Blood Surge Necromancer Endgame Build Guide for Diablo IV Season 12 - Slaughter

FAQ

The Blood Surge Necromancer is an AoE-focused Overpower build that excels at Speedfarming high density content like The Infernal Hordes. Able to stack massive amounts of Maximum Life and Fortify for a super tanky and consistent playstyle.

While this build focuses on Overpowering as often as possible, learning how to incorporate Critical Strike Chance and Vulnerable status pushes your damage even further and rewards the player for understanding the finer details. Rotating through casts of Blood Surge while picking up Blood Orbs in between, triggers Overpower even faster from your Key Passive: Rathma's Vigor. Blood Surge can even cast while you're actively running, as long as you don't hover over a target with your cursor or your directional stick on controller. This further increases your farming speed, and is unique to this skill on the Necromancer.

This build is the natural evolution of our Blood Surge Necromancer Leveling Guide. It uses many of the same Aspects, including powerful options from the Codex of Power.

Build Requirements:

  • Cruor's Embrace - Kills two birds with one stone. The increased number of Drains against Elites/Bosses is a significant damage boost, increases your natural damage multiplier, and the consumption of Corpses helps with Resource management while automating multiple Corpse related buffs.

Note that information outside of Build Variants is described from the perspective of the Mythic variant.

Season 1 - Genesis
Blood Surge Necromancer

The Season 12 theme brings Killstreaks and Bloodied Items to Diablo 4. Slay enemies in succession to begin a streak that grants increasingly greater benefits based on which affixes you roll on your gear in addition to seasonal reputation and experience. Tiers are divided as follows: Killstreak (0-99) - Carnage (100-249) - Devastation (250-499) - Bloodbath (500-999) - Massacre (1000-9000) - Fresh Meat! (9001+). For most instanced content types, you can typically expect to reach up to the 4th tier (Bloodbath). Additionally, you can find Bloodied Sigils for Nightmare Dungeons, Infernal Hordes and Lair Bosses that offer greater challenges and rewards (introducing "pseudo Torment 5").

Bloodied Items

Bloodied affixes are bonus affixes that can randomly roll on gear and come in three categories: Rampage (armor), Feast (weapons), Hunger (jewelry). The first two offer minor combat effects while the latter boosts specific loot drops, which doesn't impact your build. Recommended affixes for this build are:

  • Rampage: Increased Main Stat, Gluttony(Max life), Heartbeat (Lucky Hit Chance), Keen(Attack Speed)
  • Feast: Tenderize (Berserking)
  • Hunger: Increased Chance for Runes, Bloodied Items, Increased Experience

There is more to discover including the new seasonal Slaughterhouses and how to transform into the Butcher himself. Learn more details about the season theme in our full Season Guide.

技能与玩法

Season 1 - Genesis
Blood Surge Necromancer
Gameplay Notes
  • Reap is used to get resources back quickly. It also boosts damage and movement speed via Reaper's Pursuit.
  • Decrepify applies a powerful CC effect that also causes Lucky Hit procs to reduce Cooldowns on your Skills. You do not manually cast it, Cursed Aura or the Wat rune does the job for you!
  • Corpse Tendrils, one of the most critical skills you need to use efficiently, to group and pull targets. It also generates blood orbs to activate Blood Begets Blood.
  • Soulrift solves Vulnerable and resource management, while also buffing your damage.
  • Blood Surge has two damage components. The first one hits the entire screen and "drains" the targets, which empowers the second smaller AoE damage "surge" and scales with targets hit by the first damage portion.
  • Cruor's Embrace is used as corpse consumption for Grim Harvest, Fueled by Death and Flesh-eater.
  • Sever is only on the skill bar to increase damage and movement speed via Reaper's Pursuit in the endgame. The ranks are granted from your multiple sources of "+x to Core Skills". You can replace this with Blood Mist if you want the survivability tool.
Rotation Breakdown

Skill Rotation

  • Blood Surge is a very simple, yet powerful build to pilot. While constantly casting Blood Surge your Cruor's Embrace keeps Flesh-eater and Fueled by Death active.
  • Before starting your damage rotation, make sure to use a corpse to cast Corpse Tendrils so you generate blood orbs as well as pulling monsters together. Reap should be used before monsters dying to gain attack speed or at the start of a fight to make your first Corpse.
  • Keep Soulrift active to not only help solve Resource, but also provide constant Vulnerable.
  • Positioning your Blood Surge to overlap with as many targets as possible is very important to maximize your DPS output. This is especially important when pushing high tier Pits or Towers.
  • Move around the battlefield in between your Blood Surge casts to collect Blood Orbs and activate Blood Begets Blood. You cast while moving by keeping your cursor off of any targets or your directional stick pointed in a direction with no enemies.
  • Your Essence will constantly be filled by Soulrift, Grim Harvest and "Lucky Hit Chance to Restore Essence" affix.
  • If your essence is fully depleted, also utilize Reap to quickly get some essence back.

Book of the Dead

The Blood Surge Necromancer chooses to sacrifice Skeletal Warriors - Defenders to increase your resistances especially while pushing high pit or tower tiers, Skeletal Mages - Bone for the massive increase to Overpower Damage and Golems - Iron for Critical Strike Damage bonus.

If you have not reached 100% critical strike chance during the early game, you can sacrifice Skeletal Warriors - Skirmishers for extra crit chance.

  • If you're feeling squishy or playing on Hardcore, sacrificing ‍Golems - Blood for Maximum Life is a great ways to beef up your survivability.

Season 1 - Genesis
Blood Surge Necromancer

This section is designed to guide your Blood Surge Necromancer from a fresh level 60 into the very late endgame using the three variants Starter, Ancestral and Mythic. At the final step, you should be fully decked out with a great all-rounder build. From there, follow the other min/max variants if you want to optimize around certain activities such as Push (Tower/Pit), Speedfarm and more.

If you are fresh in Torment 1 coming from a leveling guide, this is where you begin. Since only some Aspects can be guaranteed from Dungeon unlocks for the Codex of Power, focus on acquiring the additional aspects via gambling with Murmuring Obols.

Gear & Skills

Gear Setup
Skill Tree
  • Early on in your progression, focus on stacking Maximum Life to survive. As you unlock higher power gear and Paragon points, you naturally scale your character into the higher difficulties and can start replacing some of these rolls with offensive stats or uniques.
  • Keeping Soulrift up permanently helps solve your Essence issues.
  • Stutter step around the battlefield to consume Blood Orbs.

Season 1 - Genesis
Blood Surge Necromancer

This section describes how to optimize your Blood Surge Necromancer with the right Item Affixes, Runes and Mercenary choices.

To enable the Blood Surge Necromancer to perform optimally, hunt for these stats on your gear with good rolls and aim to Temper ⚒️ & Masterwork Capstone them accordingly. Keep in mind that certain stats, such as Extra Size Tempers, Attack Speed, Critical Strike Chance and more, have caps that may affect your priorities according to the items and Paragon points available at that moment.

Recommended Endgame Stat Thresholds
100% Critical Strike Chance: Including Grasping Veins
>69% Attack Speed in Stat Sheet setup with 2h-sword + advantage elixir to go above 84% breakpoint
90% Chance for Blood Surge to Deal Double Damage.
Recommended Endgame Stat Thresholds 2
>140,000 Toughness >16,000 Armor
>2,800 to All Resistance
>8,000 Life

Recommended Consumables: Soothing Spices, Reddamine Buzz for more survivability. Sage's Whisper for Intelligence and Elixir of Advantage II for Attack Speed + Lucky Hit Chance. If you need more survivability, Elixir of Fortitude II is a good option instead of Elixir of Advantage II.

Guide Notes

Once a guide is released, many players have questions on why and how you are approaching certain choices. In this section you can find the answers to the questions that have been asked the most.

Frequently Asked Questions

The build works really well when you decimate everything in seconds, but may get overwhelmed if fights are long against high level monsters. There are several adjustments you can make when you have trouble with more difficult content:

  • Use defensive consumables (Reddamine Buzz, Soothing Spices, Elixir of Fortitude II).
  • Roll Maximum Life instead of offensive stats on as many pieces as possible.
  • Kite enemies when they become Unstoppable.
  • Replace an offensive rune with Mot, Que or Xal.
Mechanics
  • When Diablo 4 first released, Overpower was the most archaic system in the game. It basically didn't interact with the majority damage scaling systems.
  • In Patch 1.2, OP was retooled to be a much more intuitive system, similar to Critical Strike and Vulnerable.
  • Every attack has a natural 3% chance to Overpower.
  • Overpowering checks the players current Life total and multiplies outgoing damage by up to 50%.
    • Example: If the player is at 50% of their total Life, they would get a 25% damage multiplier.
  • There are many sources in the game that say "You are guaranteed to Overpower on your next Skill use..." meaning that attack always Overpowers.
  • Blood Surge has two damage instances (more with Aspects and Unique items). The first damage instance "drains" all monsters on the screen, then the "surge" damage instance occurs in a small ring around the Necromancer.
  • After five successful "surges" have hit a target, the sixth time you cast Blood Surge the Skill's damage Overpowers due to Paranormal Blood Surge. The sixth cast increases your total cast total to one instead of zero. So it only takes five additional casts after to Overpower, and thereafter.

Mechanics

  • While the mechanics are signifantly more nuanced than this, and many things in game slightly obfuscate the truth, understanding Lucky Hit Chance is fairly simple.
    • With Advanced Tooltips activated in your Gameplay Settings, you can see a Skill's innate LHC.
    • Not every Skill has a LHC even though things may cause those Skills to deal damage.
    • A Skill must apply damage to a target to have a chance to trigger LHC.
    • LHC effects do not have LHC and can't trigger other LHC effects.
    • Skills check for LHC EVERY time they deal damage to ANY targets. There's no limit or "one per cast" mechanics.
  • To calculate the chance of triggering something, you take your Skill's LHC, multiply that by (1 + (Total Bonus Lucky Hit Chance / 100)) and then multiply that by the Effect's LHC.
    • Blood Surge has an innate LHC of 20 and Decrepify has a 15% chance to trigger Cooldown Reduction on your skills.
    • The equation is 12% * (1 + (0/100)) * 15% = 1.8%. This counts for everytime the skill would do damage to a target.

BD 总结

Season 1 - Genesis
Blood Surge Necromancer
Build Summary

The Blood Surge Necromancer is incredibly nuanced and rewards the player for learning as much as you can about Overpower mechanics and how to maximize your Overpower procs.

Key Takeaways
  • Blood Surge can hit a target twice, as long as they're within range of the "drain" and the "surge". The "drain" hits the entire screen, while the "surge" only hits Close Enemies.
  • Blood-bathed Aspect allows you to cheat out an extra "surge" for free. This Overpowers when the base Skill does.
  • Cruor's Embrace takes Blood Surge to another level. Each cast drains enemies and consumes all the corpses around, causing mini novas and screen-wide explosions!
