Companion Druid Leveling Guide for Diablo IV Season 12 - Slaughter

by Danger/Season 12 - Slaughter/Last Updated: 2026年4月26日Maxroll 导入

Welcome to the Companion Druid Leveling Guide! If you're excited to slay demons using the power of friendship, this guide is your key to success.

In Diablo 4, Companions inherit 100% of your character's stats, so scaling things such as Damage Reduction, Critical Strike Chance, Attack Speed, and Willpower improves your minions' effectiveness. Furthermore, Companions also activate Lucky Hit effects, meaning your Wolves and Ravens can refresh their own Cooldowns with Pack Leader!

Over the last few seasons, the Companion Druid has acquired more and more ways to access additional allies, multiplying their damage using Shepherd's aspect. Before then, the build capped out at 9 Companions. Now, endgame versions boast as many as 15 minions, and even more if you count Ceh. One With Nature, a powerful Companion-focused Key Passive, and later the Untamed paragon board, offer your minions impressive damage and utility.

Fortunately, many of the complications surrounding Companion tags and interactions that have existed since the game's launch have been ironed out, so you can benefit from a variety of multipliers and bonuses as your build evolves.

Unfortunately, some key offensive aspects are drop-only. Check out the "Other Useful Aspects" list below to know what to look out for. In the meantime, supplement your damage with Lightning Storm, a fantastic Core Skill that pairs nicely with Clarity and Companion Skills. Take advantage of Wind Shear to generate your Spirit early on, apply Vulnerable to enemies, and increase your Movement Speed.

This guide teaches you all about how to reach the endgame in Diablo 4 with the Companion Druid. Let's jump in!

Season 1 - Genesis
Companion Druid

The Season 12 theme brings Killstreaks and Bloodied Items to Diablo 4. Slay enemies in succession to begin a streak that grants increasingly greater benefits based on which affixes you roll on your gear in addition to seasonal reputation and experience. Tiers are divided as follows: Killstreak (0-99) - Carnage (100-249) - Devastation (250-499) - Bloodbath (500-999) - Massacre (1000-9000) - Fresh Meat! (9001+). For most instanced content types, you can typically expect to reach up to the 4th tier (Bloodbath). Additionally, you can find Bloodied Sigils for Nightmare Dungeons, Infernal Hordes and Lair Bosses that offer greater challenges and rewards (introducing "pseudo Torment 5").

Bloodied Items

Bloodied affixes are bonus affixes that can randomly roll on gear and come in three categories: Rampage (armor), Feast (weapons), and Hunger (jewelry). The first two offer minor combat effects while the latter boosts specific loot drops, which doesn't impact your build. Recommended affixes for this build are:

  • Rampage: Movement Speed, Critical Strike Chance, Resource Cost Reduction
  • Feast: Berserking, Reset Random Cooldown, BloodSplosion
  • Hunger: Prioritize increased XP. Otherwise, use what you prefer/have access to.

There is more to discover including the new seasonal Slaughterhouses and how to transform into the Butcher himself. Learn more details about the season theme in our full Season Guide.

Gameplay Notes

Getting Started

To begin, pick up Wind Shear to unlock the Core Skill section. This is a fantastic Basic Skill for the early game. It allows you to generate Spirit at range, applies Vulnerable to enemies, and boosts your Movement Speed with Fierce Wind Shear.

Lightning Storm & Blood Howl

Unlock Lightning Storm for its great AoE damage. Maximize its Rank and take Raging Lightning Storm for additional lighting strikes. Next, allocate a few skill points to Blood Howl and its upgrades. In addition to its sizable heal, this skill provides the Werewolf Shapeshifting form, which grants you Fortify and Movement Speed via Skinwalker's and Digitigrade Gait respectively, and is easily refreshable with kills thanks to Enhanced Blood Howl.

Companion Skills

As you might expect, this section is the bread and butter of this build. Wolves are your best source of single-target damage, while Ravens and Poison Creeper both provide great area-of-effect damage on use, with the latter being extra effective in the early game. Pick up Call of the Wild to dramatically improve the damage of each of these skills. Additionally, invest skill points in Clarity to increase the damage of your Lightning Storm and improve its chance of triggering Pack Leader. Head to Bloodsoaked Crag to unlock Shepherd's as soon as you're able.

Rotation Breakdown

Spirit Boons

At this stage, you gain access to Spirit Boons - the Druid's unique class mechanic. Check out the Spirit Boon Progression below!

Key Passive

One With Nature is the preferred Key Passive, granting you a sizable damage multiplier and 3 additional Companions that increase Shepherd's damage bonus. As you progress towards unlocking this Key Passive, ensure that your Companion Skill Ranks are maximized for the best damage. While still good, Ravens are the weakest Companion Skill while leveling and should be prioritized last, but make sure to unlock Brutal Ravens for the boost to Shepherd's.

Defense & Offense

This build takes advantage of multiple offensive and defensive passives. Offensively, Call of the Wild, Clarity, and Envenom are your most-impactful damage multipliers. To enable Envenom, you apply Poison to enemies with Overload and Poison Creeper. Defensively, Vigilance, Circle of Life, and Ancestral Fortitude improve your Toughness and Life recovery.

Final Journey to Level 60

At this point, most of the key synergies are unlocked and the gameplay loop is almost complete. As you level up, you unlock a lot of extra points that go into various offensive and defensive passives or max out certain skills. Check out the skills progression above to see where to put your points as you go, but feel free to deviate from the order displayed as necessary.

You can unlock 12 extra skill points for a total of 71. Check out our Season Rank Guide for more details.

Druid Spirit Boons

Druids can choose 5 out of 16 Passive bonuses (Boons) from 4 different Spirits. Bond with one of the Spirits (by clicking its Portrait in the Spirit Boon menu) to activate two of its Boons. Use the following Boons:

Deer Spirit: Gift of the Stag
Eagle Spirit: Scythe Talons
Wolf Spirit: Pack Leader
Snake Spirit: Overload

Bond with the Eagle Spirit and activate Avian Wrath.

Prioritize obtaining Pack Leader as your first Boon. Iron Feather is viable if you require additional Toughness, as is Advantageous Beast for additional Movement Speed.

Gear & Stat Priorities

Season 1 - Genesis
Companion Druid

To get started as a Companion Druid, focus the most on upgrading your weapon as its damage is the base for all further damage calculations. Otherwise, follow the priority list below. While you don't have all of the desired temper manuals available, simply try to get anything useful on your gear until you acquire the right ones. For example, % Damage, Damage to Close, Vulnerable Damage, etc. all work as long as you activate their conditions. Likewise, you can temper multiple defensive options such as Resistances, Life, Armor to fill gaps in your survivability. Tempering low level gear is relatively cheap and the results can be very impactful.

Tip: For the early game, Elemental Surge Weapon Tempers are very powerful due to their high base damage, especially if you are twinking. If you find these, you may want to keep imprinting them on your weapons for an easy time.

Read more about itemization in our Beginner Articles about Damage, Defense and Stats.

Season 1 - Genesis
Companion Druid

The Codex of Power is a collection of Legendary Aspects you can imprint onto Rare or Legendary items at the Occultist. They unlock after completing specific Dungeons located around Sanctuary or salvaging items with these powers. Check out our Map Tool to locate these Dungeons.

Runes

Season 1 - Genesis
Companion Druid

You can have up to two Runewords in your setup, each consisting of one Ritual and one Invocation Rune. Socket them in Two-Handed Weapons if your build calls for them, otherwise place them into your Armor pieces to replace normal gems. The Companion Druid focuses on the following combos:

Best in Slot

  • Cir + Ceh - The more pets, the merrier! In addition to providing a Freeze and Vulnerable on hit, these pets count for Shepherd's, and gain most of the bonuses that your main Wolves have.
  • Cem + Lum - Helps supplement your Spirit generation in the early game, eventually allowing you to forgo Wind Shear in favor of other skills.

Alternative choices

As long as you haven't unlocked the final setup or found the top Runes, you can also benefit from these options:

  • Bac / Igni / Yul / Nagu - Powerful Offering generating Runes, especially Nagu, which synergizes well with Ceh for even more minions.
  • Xan - Grants access to consistent Overpower damage. Best suited for pushing difficult content.
  • Kry - The periodic pull effect from Vortex groups mobs, helping your Wolves hit multiple targets at once.
  • Gar / Qua - Available early on in your progression, these Runes offer bonuses that are strong alternatives to Lum.
  • Ohm - Provides a consistent 15% multiplier from War Cry.
  • Jah - Provides an amazing movement ability for speedfarming.

Learn more about Runes and how they work in our dedicated Runewords Overview.

Mercenaries

Season 1 - Genesis
Companion Druid

Mercenaries are unlocked during the Vessel of Hatred campaign and assist you in battle. There are 4 separate Mercenaries to choose from, each with their own skill trees and abilities. You can have one Hired (permanent) mercenary during solo play and a Reinforcement who assists you from time to time in certain situations.

  • Hired: Varyana

Her Massacre bonus grants you a considerable amount of Movement Speed, which is especially useful early on. Note that this bonus decays after 7 seconds of not killing enemies. Bloodthirst and Hysteria increase your Attack Speed, allowing your Lightning Storm and Companions to strike faster.

  • Reinforcement: Raheir

Raheir's Bastion offers a valuable source of Unstoppable, alongside a hefty 90% Damage Reduction. Bind this to activate when you become Injured.

How To Level

Season 1 - Genesis
Companion Druid

In Diablo 4, you can level by completing the Campaign, collecting Grim Favors for the Tree of Whispers, completing Helltide activities, grinding Dungeons, clearing Strongholds, fighting in the Undercity of Kurast or interacting with the Seasonal Mechanics. While there are many ways to level up in Diablo 4, not all of them are equal.

Seasonal / Alt Leveling

  • Complete the Seasonal Questline in order to progress your Season Rank to unlock additional perks, loot and work on your Seasonal Powers.
  • Preferably stay on Hard difficulty or above to benefit from the extra XP multipliers as long as your clear speed remains fast. Use power jumps (e.g. key passive, legendary drops) to bump up the difficulty.
  • Complete the Dungeons needed for any Legendary Aspects from your Codex of Power.
  • From level 1-60, you should focus on earning experience in Helltides by combining Helltide activities with Grim Favors for the Tree of Whispers or completing Gathering Legion Events.
  • Strongholds provide a big boost of experience for little time investment. Make sure to clear all of them after around level 50.
  • If you're playing an Alt, make sure to use Tempers when you have the materials to do so.
  • Find the most efficient way of leveling your character in detail with our Speed Leveling Guide.

Endgame Transition

Season 1 - Genesis
Companion Druid

As you approach level 60 with the Companion Druid, you unlock higher item power gear that represents a massive jump in character power. This is a good time to refresh your setup with new tempers and imprints.

After reaching level 60 and finishing the second Capstone Dungeon, Paragon Levels and The Pit unlock. Complete Tier 10 to enter Torment 1, where Diablo IV's Endgame begins.

At this point, your leveling setup is complete, and your focus should shift to obtaining Aspects, Uniques, Mythics, and more. With better gear, more levels, and Glyphs, you can push further and eventually unlock higher difficulties for increased rewards.

This step marks the end of the leveling guide. Below is the Paragon setup to get you started in Torment difficulty, but ideally, you should now transition towards the endgame version of this build or choose another of your liking.

BD 总结

Season 1 - Genesis
Companion Druid
Build Summary

The Companion Druid is the perfect build if you enjoy a minion playstyle that differs from the Necromancer. Companions offer strong single-target and AoE capabilities, and by endgame, you can specialize in either a Wolves or Ravens playstyle. It has a bit of a slow start, but stick with it, and you'll be blasting through the endgame with a whole fleet of Companions in no time!
