Welcome to the Crushing Hand Spiritborn Leveling Guide! This build relies on Gorilla Skills, Eagle Main Hall, and focuses on high AoE damage output by spamming Crushing Hand combined with Unrelenting.
Crushing Hand Spiritborn Leveling Guide for Diablo IV Season 12 - Slaughter
This build doesn't need much to get started besides one Dungeon Codex Power, but Spiritborn has access to many strong aspects that amplify this build. The primary milestone for this leveling build is unlocking the Vital Strikes Key Passive. This gives you Vulnerable damage increase, Vigor restore, and healing.
In the endgame, this build gets massively enhanced by a few key Uniques including Harmony of Ebewaka, Rod of Kepeleke and few other surprises with Bloody Affixes. Additionally you have powerful aspects such as Redirected Force and Unyielding Hits that buff your damage further.
There are more things to unlock down the line, which are explained in the Crushing Hand Spiritborn Endgame Guide. Until then, this guide teaches you all about how to reach the endgame in Diablo 4 with the Crushing Hand Spiritborn. Now onward to Crush our enemies!
Season Theme - Kill Streaks
The Season 12 theme brings Killstreaks and Bloodied Items to Diablo 4. Slay enemies in succession to begin a streak that grants increasingly greater benefits based on which affixes you roll on your gear in addition to seasonal reputation and experience. Tiers are divided as follows: Killstreak (0-99) - Carnage (100-249) - Devastation (250-499) - Bloodbath (500-999) - Massacre (1000-9000) - Fresh Meat! (9001+). For most instanced content types, you can typically expect to reach up to the 4th tier (Bloodbath). Additionally, you can find Bloodied Sigils for Nightmare Dungeons, Infernal Hordes and Lair Bosses that offer greater challenges and rewards (introducing "pseudo Torment 5").
Bloodied Items
Bloodied affixes are bonus affixes that can randomly roll on gear and come in three categories: Rampage (armor), Feast (weapons), Hunger (jewelry). The first two offer minor combat effects while the latter boosts specific loot drops, which doesn't impact your build. Recommended affixes for this build are:
- Rampage: %Dexterity, Movement Speed, Max Life, Attack Speed
- Feast: Gain Berserking
- Hunger: Increase chance for Hunger Items (to get more amulets)
There is more to discover including the new seasonal Slaughterhouses and how to transform into the Butcher himself. Learn more details about the season theme in our full Season Guide.
技能与玩法
Getting Started (Levels 1-14): Poison Bomb
For an extremely short period until level 15 (& you unlock your Spirit Halls); you level with a "Poison Bomb" combo. This is using Withering Fist & Stinger to "bomb" enemies with massive amounts of poison.
- Cast Withering Fist 3x to spread poisoning to all nearby enemies.
- If you hit a vulnerable enemy, it's 3rd attack also spreads vulnerable to nearby enemies.
- Also cast when needed to regenerate Vigor.
- Spam Stinger until you're out of Vigor.
- Stinger spreads its attack to ALL poisoned enemies & makes enemies vulnerable if you're healthy.
- Stinger heals you when you hit a vulnerable enemy.
- Enemies are also poisoned passively by Toxic Skin, if they hit you.
- You don't need to activate it; but you can for additional damage against big packs & bosses.
- Repeat 3x Withering Fist & Stinger "Poison Bomb" combo until the pack is dead.
The majority of the damage comes from Stinger. You only use Sharp Withering Fist for the poisoning spread ability. Use Soar as a mobility skill to quickly move around. Use Withering Fist when you need to regenerate Vigor as well, but make sure you trigger another "3rd Attack" to refresh the "Poison Bomb".
NOTE: As you receive extra skill points from Season Rank, use them according to the next steps in the Skill Progression slider.
Check out our Renown Guide to unlock all your additional Skill Points efficiently. This guide assumes you have already unlocked all of these skill points.
Spiritborn Spirit Halls
At level 15, you gain access to Spirit Halls - the Spiritborn's unique class mechanic. Eagle Main Spirit Hall (EMH) provides great damage & utility for Crushing Hands Leveling. Every time you evade, or cast an Eagle skill, you create massive amounts of auto-aimed projectiles and make enemies Vulnerable.
At level 30, you gain access to Secondary Spirit Halls, select Eagle Secondary Spirit Hall (ESH) for additional damage via Critical Strikes and Vulnerable. Alternatively, instead of ESH you can select Gorilla Secondary Spirit Hall (GSH) for slightly less damage, but then you are almost always unstoppable.
Find a clip explaining Spirit Halls in more detail here.
- If this is your first time playing Spiritborn, the you need to unlock the Spiritborn Class mechanic prior to continuing. Once you reach level 15, you have to complete a short questline starting in Gea Kul, Kehjistan.
- A Priority Quest leads you there to help out Tarka.
- After a few stops outside of town you have to enter the Sacred Hunting Grounds and defeat the Spirit Beast. While inside this dungeon you have to use the emote wheel at two separate stops, once for "Help", once for "Thanks" in order to progress.
- The boss fight is relatively long and difficult for low level characters, so it's recommended to do this quest on normal.
- After finishing the quest your secondary Spirit Hall unlocks automatically at level 30.
Learn more details and how to unlock this system in our full Spiritborn Class Overview.
Level 15 change for Crushing Hand
Put 1 point into Rock Splitter as your Basic/Vigor generation skill. Max Crushing Hand with Rampant Crushing Hand as your skill upgrade selection. Put 1 point in Ravager with Measured Ravager as your skill upgrade selection. Add 1 point in Armored Hide with Enhanced Armored Hide to help with Resolve generation. Now you spam Crushing Hand until you're out of Vigor, then refill your Vigor with casting you basic skill.
Ultimate Skill
Select the Ultimate skill The Protector, which provides additional damage increase and defensive protection with additional Barrier. Use Gorilla Secondary Spirit Hall (GSH) until you can reliably stay Unstoppable from Armored Hide or The Protector, then switch to Eagle Secondary Spirit Hall (ESH).
Key Passive & Utility
Select Vital Strikes as the key passive of choice for this leveling setup. This provides a large damage boost, keeps enemies effectively permanently vulnerable, provides healing, and restores Vigor. As you level up, you unlock a lot of extra points that go into various offensive and defensive passives or max out certain skills. Check out the skills progression above to see where to put your points as you go, but feel free to deviate from the order displayed as necessary. For example, you can pick up Resilient earlier for extra defense or leave out some of the Ultimate passive cluster nodes until later if you find yourself rarely using The Protector.
Final Journey to Level 60
By now you have had some large power spikes and you should be able to increase your difficulty. The name of the game with leveling is speed, so if you're going slow then you need to lower the difficulty down a level. Check out the skills progression above to see where to put your points as you go, but feel free to deviate from the order displayed as necessary. Once you hit Level 60, you unlock Paragon, then your focus will pivot to moving on to Torment 1 difficulty, which is unlocked by beating Pit Tier 10.
Endgame Swaps
The endgame build looks significantly different from the leveling version after you acquire specific key Uniques that supercharge the setup. At some point you stop needing to use our Basic Skill to spam Crushing Hand non-stop, among other changes. Find out more details in the Crushing Hand Spiritborn Endgame Guide.
You can unlock 12 extra skill points for a total of 71, which you can unlock along the way. Check out our Season Rank Guide for more details.
Gear & Stat Priorities
To get started as a Crushing Hand Spiritborn, focus the most on upgrading your weapon as its damage is the base for all further damage calculations. Otherwise, follow the priority list below. While you don't have all of the desired temper manuals available, simply try to get anything useful on your gear until you acquire the right ones. For example, % Damage, Damage to Close, Vulnerable Damage, etc. all work as long as you activate their conditions. Likewise, you can temper multiple defensive options such as Resistances, Life, Armor to fill gaps in your survivability. Tempering low level gear is relatively cheap and the results can be very impactful.
Tip: For the early game, Elemental Surge Weapon Tempers are very powerful due to their high base damage, especially if you are twinking. If you find these, you may want to keep imprinting them on your weapons for an easy time.
Read more about itemization in our Beginner Articles about Damage, Defense and Stats.
Legendaries & Uniques
The Codex of Power is a collection of Legendary Aspects you can imprint onto Rare or Legendary items at the Occultist. They unlock after completing specific Dungeons located around Sanctuary or salvaging items with these powers. Check out our Map Tool to locate these Dungeons.
For leveling, there are a few powers that can significantly help you, if you have the funds to imprint them. In addition, keep an eye out for powerful Unique items you may find for this or other builds. You can also gamble obols, or barter with Pale Marks, to gain Legendary gear. More about bartering can be found here.

Keep in mind that there are many more Aspects and Uniques that can be useful to multiple builds; this just lists some of the most impactful ones. While we usually recommend starting with Endgame Builds around Paragon 100, you often can make them work earlier with these drops:
Build-defining Uniques
- Loyalty's Mantle - greatly enhances multiple Endgame Builds
- Jacinth Shell - greatly amplifies multiple Endgame Builds
- Rod of Kepeleke - greatly increases damage for multiple Endgame Builds.

Runes
You can have up to two Runewords in your setup, each consisting of one Ritual and one Invocation Rune. Socket them in Two-Handed Weapons if your build calls for them, otherwise place them into your Armor pieces to replace normal gems. The Crushing Hand Spiritborn focuses on the following combos:
Best in Slot
- Poc + Zec - Reduces the cooldown of your Ultimate skill.
- Cir +Gar - Provides additional Critical Strike Chance.
Alternative choices
If you have access to higher level runes, you can also explore the following options:
- Tun - Stuns enemies and additional damage.
- Que - Earthen Bulwark helps with defense and later synergy with Viscous Shield.
- Igni - Another good way of generating offering.
- Tam - Spam core skill all the time.
- Thul - The Freeze adds more defense and an extra damage buff.
- Jah - Allows you to go faster with free Teleport.
- Wat - Decrepify helps with stagger, defense and allows execute at 10% HP. When combined with Xol in your other Runeword it also generates large amounts of offering.

Mercenaries
Mercenaries are unlocked during the Vessel of Hatred campaign and assist you in battle. There are 4 separate Mercenaries to choose from, each with their own skill trees and abilities. You can have one hired (permanent) mercenary during solo play and a reinforcement who assists you from time to time in certain situations.
Hired: Varyana
She grants extra attack speed (cap 1) with Hysteria but more importantly a ton of healing via Taste of Flesh. In addition to keeping you alive, it also fuels Replenishing Ravager to keep going effectively permanently.
Reinforcement: Aldkin
Call Aldkin, to cast Field of Languish when you cast any skill in combat to reduce incoming damage. This also only happens when his reinforcement timer is off of cooldown.

How To Level
In Diablo 4, you can level by completing the Campaign, collecting Grim Favors for the Tree of Whispers, completing Helltide activities, grinding Dungeons, clearing Strongholds, fighting in the Undercity of Kurast or interacting with the Seasonal Mechanics. While there are many ways to level up in Diablo 4, not all of them are equal.
Campaign Leveling
- For your first character in Diablo 4, completing the Campaign provides all the background lore information but is not necessary.
- The original Campaign is the slowest way to level, but it's worth experiencing the Campaign and Diablo 4's storyline at least once.
- To play Seasonal Content you need to have completed or skipped the Campaign.
- After finishing the campaign, you should focus on earning experience in Helltides by combining it with Grim Favors for the Tree of Whispers or completing Gathering Legion Events.
- Strongholds provide a big boost of experience for little time investment. Make sure to clear all of them after around level 50.
Vessel of Hatred Campaign
- This is the fastest way to level up in a fresh season.
- Stay on Normal difficulty and skip as many monsters as possible while rushing all main objectives for massive XP spikes.
- You can also just partially complete and skip the remaining Campaign at any time from the main menu to get an early boost until your build is online.
- After finishing the campaign, you should focus on earning experience in Helltides by combining it with Grim Favors for the Tree of Whispers or completing Gathering Legion Events.
- Strongholds provide a big boost of experience for little time investment. They are a good choice to finish the final levels quickly.
- Find the most efficient way of leveling your character in detail with our Speed Leveling Guide.
- Keep up your Kill Streaks for bonus XP
Seasonal / Alt Leveling
- Complete the Seasonal Questline in order to progress your Season Rank to unlock additional perks, loot and work on your Seasonal Powers.
- Preferably stay on Hard difficulty or above to benefit from the extra XP multipliers as long as your clear speed remains fast. Use power jumps (e.g. key passive, legendary drops) to bump up the difficulty.
- Complete the Dungeons needed for any Legendary Aspects from your Codex of Power.
- From level 1-60 you should focus on earning experience in Helltides by combining Helltide activities with Grim Favors for the Tree of Whispers or completing Gathering Legion Events.
- Strongholds provide a big boost of experience for little time investment. Make sure to clear all of them after around level 50.
- If you're playing an Alt, make sure to use Tempers when you have the materials to do so.

Tips and Tricks
- Imprint Important Aspects on Amulet
- It is a good idea to put your best Offensive Aspect on your Amulet, since it is usually not replaced as often as other gear.
- Compare Your Items
- Press Shift to activate item comparison. Use this build guide's Stat Priorities section to identify potential upgrades.
- Choose an Easy Difficulty
- Ideally, start on Normal or Hard difficulty for the extra XP modifier, then try to go higher when it's way too easy. If that slows you down noticeably, it's better to stay on a lower difficulty.
- Use Your Materials
- There's no point in holding on to your gold or materials for later. Use everything to speed up your journey to 60. If you're twinking, make sure to craft the Allowance Caches from the Alchemist at level 20 and if available, equip your Mythic Uniques at level 35 to make the leveling a breeze.
Speedrun Route
- If you're looking to min/max your time spent on the way to 60 instead of following a generic guideline, you need to use a specific strategy.
- This usually includes farming certain activities up to a specified level and then switching to other tasks while gathering XP in high density areas and pushing the difficulty as high as you can.
- We update this strategy seasonally in our Speed Leveling Guide.
Endgame Transition
As you approach level 60 with the Crushing Hand Spiritborn, you unlock higher item power gear that represents a massive jump in character power. This is a good time to refresh your setup with new tempers and imprints.
After reaching level 60 and finishing the second Capstone Dungeon, Paragon Levels and The Pit unlock. Complete Tier 10 to enter Torment 1, where Diablo IV's Endgame begins.
At this point, your setup should look roughly like this before you dive into min/maxing with Aspects, Uniques, Mythics and more. With better gear, more levels and Glyphs, you can push further and eventually unlock higher difficulties for increased rewards.
This step marks the end of the leveling guide. Below is the Paragon setup to get you started in Torment difficulty but ideally you should now transition towards the endgame version of this build or choose another of your liking.
Paragon & Glyphs
Use the slider to see progression steps. By Paragon 150, you should be getting ready to transition to an Endgame Build. At around Paragon 200, leveling slows down significantly and all important Rare clusters, Legendary nodes and Glyph sockets should be unlocked. Legendary nodes provide a massive damage increase and it is more important for you to reach all four nodes prior to even unlocking Glyph sockets on your fourth & fifth Paragon Boards.
NOTE: If you don't feel like rotating your Paragon boards going from Paragon 100 -> 150, then you can just use the layout from Paragon 150 and follow the progression as close as you can from Paragon 100 and onward.
NOTE: The Paragon "Board Rush" method is the most effective and powerful min/max outcome, where you unlock all 4 Legendary nodes prior to even focusing on all 5 Glyphs.
Glyph Leveling Priorities
To Level 15
- Spirit
- Canny
- Revenge
- Colossal
- Talon
To Level 46
- Spirit
- Canny
- Revenge
- Colossal
- Talon
- Hubris
NOTE: Around Paragon 225+ you switchCanny forHubris on the Sapping board to maximize Vigor.
