Welcome to the Divine Lance Paladin Endgame Guide! This build is a classic melee fighter empowered by Heaven. Your main attack, Divine Lance, is a multi-hit ability that impales enemies for devastating damage and comes with a built-in short dash, making it very mobile and great for farming, despite the small area coverage.

The Zealous Joust upgrade grants Divine Lance a small cone attack that creates a great mix of single target burst and AoE damage to take out packs. It also allows you to build into Zealot synergies, unlocking even more extra hits and aspects such as Jacques' Fervor and Zealot's Covenant.

As a Zealot, it's all about hitting fast with no downtime, so the entire setup is built with that in mind. The build stacks Attack Speed, Cooldown Reduction and enough automatic resource procs to never have to stop attacking while spamming your Auras and other support abilities.

Divine Lance Paladin

The Season 12 theme brings Killstreaks and Bloodied Items to Diablo 4. Slay enemies in succession to begin a streak that grants increasingly greater benefits based on which affixes you roll on your gear in addition to seasonal reputation and experience. Tiers are divided as follows: Killstreak (0-99) - Carnage (100-249) - Devastation (250-499) - Bloodbath (500-999) - Massacre (1000-9000) - Fresh Meat! (9001+). For most instanced content types, you can typically expect to reach up to the 4th tier (Bloodbath). Additionally, you can find Bloodied Sigils for Nightmare Dungeons, Infernal Hordes and Lair Bosses that offer greater challenges and rewards (introducing "pseudo Torment 5").

Bloodied Items

Bloodied affixes are bonus affixes that can randomly roll on gear and come in three categories: Rampage (armor), Feast (weapons), Hunger (jewelry). The first two offer minor combat effects while the latter boosts specific loot drops, which doesn't impact your build. Recommended affixes for this build are:

  • Rampage: % Strength, % Life.
    • Critical Strike Chance and Attack Speed to help fill any gear gaps.
  • Feast: Every 25 Kills, Gain Berserking .
  • Hunger: Up to preference.

Gameplay Notes
  • Divine Lance is your main ability. For the most part, just hold it down to deal damage, but the upgrade and dash allow you to engage from medium distance. Positioning with this ability matters, as it has a frontal cone AoE with most of the damage concentrated in the center.
  • Falling Star is the main mobility tool, used to jump from pack to pack or over obstacles.
  • Consecration provides great healing, 15% extra damage and incredible Weaken uptime.
  • Condemn is used for pulling enemies together into your relatively small AoE.
  • Fanaticism Aura adds Weaken and buffs damage, ramping up with repeated attacks.
  • Defiance Aura recovers health and generates Resolve. It can be activated for Unstoppable when needed.
Rotation Breakdown

Skill Rotation

  • Spam Divine Lance to deal damage.
  • Keep up Zealot stacks up as much as possible by moving quickly between packs.
  • Activate Fanaticism Aura and Defiance Aura.
  • Use Consecration when you are engaging enemies.
  • Use Condemn to pull in packs of enemies.


Paladin Oath

As a Zealot, it's all about hitting as fast as possible and ramping up your damage. Make sure to leave no gaps in your output to benefit from all the different buffs.

Divine Lance Paladin

This section is designed to guide your Divine Lance Paladin from a fresh level 60 into the very late endgame using the three variants Starter, Ancestral and Mythic. At the final step, you should be fully decked out with a great all-rounder build. From there, follow the other min/max variants if you want to optimize around certain activities such as Push (Tower/Pit), Speedfarm and more.

If you are fresh in Torment 1 coming from a leveling guide, this is where you begin. Since only some Aspects can be guaranteed from Dungeon unlocks for the Codex of Power, focus on acquiring the additional aspects via gambling with Murmuring Obols or Pale Marks in the Mercenary Den.

Skill Tree
  • Early on in your progression, focus on stacking Maximum Life to survive. As you unlock higher power gear and Paragon points, you naturally scale your character into the higher difficulties and can start replacing some of these rolls with offensive stats or uniques.
  • Gamble Flails to acquire Light's Rebuke as early as possible.
  • While the class-specific aspects are usually stronger, you can also use other generic bonuses like Edgemaster's and Inner Calm and more until you get them.
  • At this stage, it's difficult to hit 100% Block Chance, but Bulwark's, En Garde tempers and some Paragon nodes make it possible. If you feel too squishy, you can invest more into Block earlier (e.g. equip Herald of Zakarum, put the aspect on the amulet, more tempers, rush the Paragon nodes).
  • If you are having Resource issues, temper Resource Cost Reduction on your Rings and even Amulet.
  • Once you have completed the basic setup, switch to the Ancestral variant.

Frequently Asked Questions

The build works really well when you decimate everything in seconds, but may get overwhelmed if fights are long against high level monsters. There are several adjustments you can make when you have trouble with more difficult content:

  • Make sure you reach permanent 100% Block Chance to avoid massive damage spikes.
  • Use defensive consumables (Reddamine Buzz, Soothing Spices, Elixir of Fortitude II).
  • Roll Maximum Life instead of offensive stats on as many pieces as possible.
  • Kite enemies when they become Unstoppable.
  • Replace an offensive rune with Mot, Que or Xal.

Mechanics

  • Zealot requires a hit to stack.
  • The additional strikes trigger if any hit of an ability is a crit against any target.
  • Extra hits scale off the crit damage of the skill's main hit, even if that wasn't the trigger, and can crit their own damage again.
  • Extra hits carry Lucky Hit Chance.
