Divine Lance Paladin Leveling Guide for Diablo IV Season 12 - Slaughter

by aoinomiku/Season 12 - Slaughter/Last Updated: 2026年4月26日Maxroll 导入

Welcome to the Divine Lance Paladin Leveling Guide! This build is a classic melee fighter, empowered by heaven. Your main attack, Divine Lance, is a multi-hit ability that impales enemies for devastating damage and comes with a built-in short dash, making it very mobile and great for farming despite the small area coverage.

The Zealous Joust upgrade grants Divine Lance a small cone attack that creates a great mix of single target burst and AoE damage to take out packs. It also allows you to build into Zealot synergies, unlocking even more extra hits and aspects such as Jacques' Fervor and Zealot's Covenant.

As a Zealot, it's all about hitting fast with no downtime, so the entire setup is built with that in mind. Thanks to the Moni + Lum Rune combo, never run out of Faith again while zooming around the map with your 3 mobility skills and Rally-fueled movement speed.

There are more things to unlock explained in the Divine Lance Paladin Endgame Guide, where this build becomes a real melee machine gun. All in all, the Divine Lance Paladin is an amazing allrounder that works from start to finish. Let's get started!

Season 1 - Genesis
Divine Lance Paladin

The Season 12 theme brings Killstreaks and Bloodied Items to Diablo 4. Slay enemies in succession to begin a streak that grants increasingly greater benefits based on which affixes you roll on your gear in addition to seasonal reputation and experience. Tiers are divided as follows: Killstreak (0-99) - Carnage (100-249) - Devastation (250-499) - Bloodbath (500-999) - Massacre (1000-9000) - Fresh Meat! (9001+). For most instanced content types, you can typically expect to reach up to the 4th tier (Bloodbath). Additionally, you can find Bloodied Sigils for Nightmare Dungeons, Infernal Hordes and Lair Bosses that offer greater challenges and rewards (introducing "pseudo Torment 5").

Bloodied Items

Bloodied affixes are bonus affixes that can randomly roll on gear and come in three categories: Rampage (armor), Feast (weapons), Hunger (jewelry). The first two offer minor combat effects while the latter boosts specific loot drops, which doesn't impact your build. Recommended affixes for this build are:

  • Rampage: % Strength, % Life.
    • Critical Strike Chance and Attack Speed to help fill any gear gaps.
  • Feast: Every 25 Kills, Gain Berserking .
  • Hunger: Up to preference.

There is more to discover including the new seasonal Slaughterhouses and how to transform into the Butcher himself. Learn more details about the season theme in our full Season Guide.

Gameplay Notes

Getting Started

To start off, you have to put a point into Basic Skills to unlock the other sections. Advance is your choice to generate resources since it is a great mobility tool.

Divine Lance is the Core Skill you want to spam non-stop. It hits multiple times and, with other synergies, ramps up during consecutive attacks. Get in the habit of first filling your entire resource bar, then holding it down for repeated hits. Position yourself so that you hit the big targets with all of them while the side attacks deal with the leftovers.

Auras

Almost any Paladin build makes use of Auras in some way. They each have both a passive and active effect, so you profit from them at all times.

Fanaticism Aura provides an insane amount of attack speed and critical strike damage and applies Weaken with it's active.

Defiance Aura offers Unstoppable, Resolve generation and healing via Rite of Prayer (works with Mercenaries).

Rotation Breakdown

Resource

You start using Rally for mobility and resource recovery, together with Advance. Once you acquire Moni + Lum, your days having to worry about resources are over, so feel free to swap Advance or Rally to Consecration for more damage and healing.

Oath

At level 15, you unlock your class mechanic called Oaths. There are four possible options, each defining a specific archetype: Zealot, Juggernaut, Judicator, Disciple. Generally, there aren't any choices to think about as most builds quite clearly synergize with one of them.

In this case, choose Zealot. It provides a short duration stacking damage buff called Fervor that makes your Zealot Core and Ultimate Skills hit even more often and unlocks further synergies later. Keep up this buff as much as possible by attacking multiple times in a row.

Key Passive

Coat of Arms is your Key Passive of choice and generally the best passive on Paladin, as this class naturally already wants to stack block and armor. This passive gets better as you get more and stronger gear resulting in it not giving you the best damage multiplier earlier on, specially when compared to Path of the Penitent, however since it does not have any downsides, that you would need to work around, it is the preferred choice.

Final Journey to Level 60

At this point, the leveling setup is complete and all of the key synergies are unlocked. On the way to level 60, you gain many extra points that go into various offensive and defensive passives or max out certain skills. Check out the skills progression above to see where to put your points as you go, but feel free to deviate from the order displayed as necessary if you need more healing or resources earlier (e.g. Longevity, Renewal, Parry).

Endgame Swaps

The endgame build looks different from the leveling build due to additional progression steps later, leading to several adjustments on the skill tree as you acquire more Aspects and Uniques. To find out more details, check out the Divine Lance Paladin Endgame Guide.

You can unlock 12 extra skill points for a total of 71. Check out our Season Rank Guide for more details.

Paladin Oath

As a Zealot, it's all about hitting as fast as possible and ramping up your damage. Make sure to leave no gaps in your output to benefit from all the different buffs.

Gear & Stat Priorities

Season 1 - Genesis
Divine Lance Paladin

To get started as a Divine Lance Paladin, focus the most on upgrading your weapon, as its damage is the base for all further damage calculations. Otherwise, follow the priority list below. While you don't have all of the desired temper manuals available, simply try to get anything useful on your gear until you acquire the right ones. For example, % Damage, Damage to Close, Vulnerable Damage, etc. all work as long as you activate their conditions. Likewise, you can temper multiple defensive options such as Resistances, Life, Armor to fill gaps in your survivability. Tempering low level gear is relatively cheap and the results can be very impactful.

Tip: For the early game, Elemental Surge Weapon Tempers are very powerful due to their high base damage, especially if you are twinking. If you find these, you may want to keep imprinting them on your weapons for an easy time.

Read more about itemization in our Beginner Articles about Damage, Defense and Stats.

Legendaries & Uniques

Season 1 - Genesis
Divine Lance Paladin

The Codex of Power is a collection of Legendary Aspects you can imprint onto Rare or Legendary items at the Occultist. They unlock after completing specific Dungeons located around Sanctuary or salvaging items with these powers. Check out our Map Tool to locate these Dungeons.

For leveling, there are a few powers that can significantly help us if we have the funds to imprint them. In addition, keep an eye out for powerful Unique items you may find for this or other builds.

Keep in mind that there are many more Aspects and Uniques that can be useful to multiple builds; this just lists some of the most impactful ones. While we usually recommend starting with Endgame Builds at level 60, you often can make them work earlier with these drops:

Runes

Season 1 - Genesis
Divine Lance Paladin

You can have up to two Runewords in your setup, each consisting of one Ritual and one Invocation Rune. Socket them in Two-Handed Weapons if your build calls for them, otherwise place them into your Armor pieces to replace normal gems. The Divine Lance Paladin focuses on the following combos:

Best in Slot

  • Cir + Gar - Provides a lot of critical chance.
    • Getting a lot of critical chance is important as huge portion of Paladin passives provide extra critical damage.
  • Moni + Lum - This rune combo completely takes care of all your resource needs.
    • Once you get them consider swapping Advance for Consecration, using two points from Advance and one from Longevity.

Alternative choices

If you have access to higher level runes, you can also explore the following options:

  • Wat - Decrepify helps with stagger, defense and allows execute at 10% HP. When combined with Xol in your other Runeword, it also generates large amounts of offering
  • Que - Earthen Bulwark helps with survival while spending your life with Rally Words of Sacrifice
  • Igni - Another good way of generating offering
  • Ceh - Spawns wolves that deal damage and freeze enemies
  • Tam - A reliable offering generator for Core skill builds
  • Thul - The freeze adds more defense and an extra damage buff
  • Jah - Allows you to go faster with free Teleport

Mercenaries

Season 1 - Genesis
Divine Lance Paladin

Mercenaries are unlocked during the Vessel of Hatred campaign and assist you in battle. There are 4 separate Mercenaries to choose from, each with their own skill trees and abilities. You can have one hired (permanent) mercenary during solo play and a reinforcement who assists you from time to time in certain situations.

Hired: Varyana

She grants extra attack speed (cap 1) with Hysteria, but more importantly a ton of healing via Taste of Flesh.

Reinforcement: Aldkin

Choose Field of Languish for extra damage reduction.

How To Level

Season 1 - Genesis
Divine Lance Paladin

In Diablo 4, you can level by completing the Campaign, collecting Grim Favors for the Tree of Whispers, completing Helltide activities, grinding Dungeons, clearing Strongholds, fighting in the Undercity of Kurast or interacting with the Seasonal Mechanics. While there are many ways to level up in Diablo 4, not all of them are equal.

Seasonal / Alt Leveling

  • Complete the Seasonal Questline in order to progress your Season Rank to unlock additional perks, loot and work on your Seasonal Powers.
  • Preferably stay on Hard difficulty or above to benefit from the extra XP multipliers as long as your clear speed remains fast. Use power jumps (e.g. key passive, legendary drops) to bump up the difficulty.
  • Complete the Dungeons needed for any Legendary Aspects from your Codex of Power.
  • From level 1-60 you should focus on earning experience in Helltides by combining Helltide activities with Grim Favors for the Tree of Whispers or completing Gathering Legion Events.
  • Strongholds provide a big boost of experience for little time investment. Make sure to clear all of them after around level 50.
  • If you're playing an Alt, make sure to use Tempers when you have the materials to do so.
  • Find the most efficient way of leveling your character in detail with our Speed Leveling Guide.

Endgame Transition

Season 1 - Genesis
Divine Lance Paladin

As you approach level 60 with the Divine Lance Paladin, you unlock higher item power gear that represents a massive jump in character power. This is a good time to refresh your setup with new tempers and imprints.

After reaching level 60 and finishing the second Capstone Dungeon, Paragon Levels and The Pit unlock. Complete Tier 10 to enter Torment 1, where Diablo IV's Endgame begins.

At this point, your setup should look roughly like this before you dive into min/maxing with Aspects, Uniques, Mythics and more. With better gear, more levels and Glyphs, you can push further and eventually unlock higher difficulties for increased rewards.

This step marks the end of the leveling guide. Below is the Paragon setup to get you started in Torment difficulty, but ideally you should now transition towards the endgame version of this build or choose another of your liking.
