Welcome to the Flurry Rogue Leveling Guide! This melee build is easy-to-play and great for leveling. You have good mobility and high AoE damage to blast through monster packs while decimating larger foes with an onslaught of blades and Imbuement effects.
Flurry Rogue Leveling Guide for Diablo IV Season 12 - Slaughter
Flurry is a Core Skill that hits enemies up to four times per use in front of you. With the Encircling Blades Aspect, you convert it into a 360° Area of Effect that destroys everything around you. Teleport to your target enemies with Improved Flurry because who likes walking anyway.
Combo Points requires a 3:1 rotation between a Basic Skill and Flurry to maximize your damage and Attack Speed. Feel free to swap to Inner Sight after level 20 and remove your basic skill, and if you're lucky to get Moni + Lum you can immediately swap to Preparation because Flurry becomes a Mobility skill with Improved Flurry.
Shadow Clone patches up the mediocre single target damage of Flurry by giving you a 15 second window to significantly increase your damage. As you transition into Torment difficulties you remove Shadow Imbuement from your skill tree.
This is a well-rounded, beginner-friendly build if you're looking to level with a melee playstyle. The Flurry Rogue Endgame Build Guide explains more once you reach Torment 1. Let's get started!
赛季主题与构筑适配
The Season 12 theme brings Killstreaks and Bloodied Items to Diablo 4. Slay enemies in succession to begin a streak that grants increasingly greater benefits based on which affixes you roll on your gear in addition to seasonal reputation and experience. Tiers are divided as follows: Killstreak (0-99) - Carnage (100-249) - Devastation (250-499) - Bloodbath (500-999) - Massacre (1000-9000) - Fresh Meat! (9001+). For most instanced content types, you can typically expect to reach up to the 4th tier (Bloodbath). Additionally, you can find Bloodied Sigils for Nightmare Dungeons, Infernal Hordes and Lair Bosses that offer greater challenges and rewards (introducing "pseudo Torment 5").
Bloodied Items
Bloodied affixes are bonus affixes that can randomly roll on gear and come in three categories: Rampage (armor), Feast (weapons), Hunger (jewelry). The first two offer minor combat effects while the latter boosts specific loot drops, which doesn't impact your build. Recommended affixes for this build are:
- Rampage: Critical Strike Chance, Attack Speed
- Feast: Reset random Cooldowns, Gain Berserking
- Hunger: Increased chance for Runes (to help you find Moni + Lum)
There is more to discover including the new seasonal Slaughterhouses and how to transform into the Butcher himself. Learn more details about the season theme in our full Season Guide.
技能与玩法
Getting Started
To start off, pick up Blade Shift as your Basic Skill. It grants you Unhindered, which allows you to move through enemies. Fundamental Blade Shift allows you to deal more damage after any other skill cast, so weave this into your combos to deal more damage. This is also the reason you put 5 ranks into the skill, because Basic Skills can actually kill things at the cost of 0 Energy, which is priceless at low levels!
Immediately pick up your Core Skill Flurry. It hits four times in a cone in front of you or a full 360° radius with Encircling Blades. It's recommended to unlock this Aspect at level 15 by completing the Forsaken Quarry dungeon alongside the Rogue questline! The Enhanced Flurry upgrade applies the Vulnerable debuff to enemies, and the Improved Flurry upgrade improves mobility and defense by healing you and teleporting you to your targets. It truly is a fantastic skill that can carry you from level 1 until the endgame!
Mobility
Grab Dash to move around the map faster and avoid dangerous attacks. Dark Shroud not only provides you with much-needed defense, it also helps with mobility thanks to Enhanced Dark Shroud, and Critical Strike Chance via Countering Dark Shroud. Cast Dark Shroud as often as possible to remain at 5 shadows. If you find Umbrous remove this skill from your bar for Shadow Step.
Specialization
At level 15, you unlock your class mechanic called Specializations. The Flurry Rogue uses Combo Points while leveling, which allows for a large burst of damage with Flurry after casting Blade Shift three times, while also giving you a massive attack speed boost.
Imbuement
Shadow Imbuement allows for satisfying chain reactions of explosions when you kill an enemy that has previously been hit by a Shadow Imbued skill. Combine Shadow Imbuement with the Consuming Shadows passive to get Energy back from the explosions. This is a great Imbuement to use early on. Keep in mind, the more enemies you infect with your imbued skill, the more explosions you're going to create.
Ultimate Skill
The Flurry Rogue uses Shadow Clone as its Ultimate skill. For 15 seconds you almost double your damage output whilst being significantly harder to kill because of Supreme Shadow Clone. It mimics all of your skills except Shadow Imbuement and helps you take down any tough enemies you come across. It also grants you 5 seconds of Unstoppable which can save you from dying to crowd control effects. While the cooldown is long early on, adding 5 ranks to the skill reduces the cooldown while increasing its damage and as you progress, the cooldown becomes short enough for full uptime of Shadow Clone.
Key Passive
Momentum is your Key Passive of choice for the build. It is a great all-arounder that provides you with Movement Speed, Damage Reduction, Energy Regeneration, Max Energy, and increased damage. Stacks are gained by casting Cutthroat skills which are Blade Shift, Flurry, Dash, and Shadow Clone. Once it has been fully stacked, you don't need to worry about losing stacks, as this build uses no Marksman skills.
Final Journey to Level 60
At this point, the core setup is complete. All of your remaining points go into boosting your damage, defenses, speed, or already allocated skills. Check out the skills progression above to see where to put your points as you go, but feel free to deviate from the order displayed as necessary. For example, you can pick up Target Practice or Stutter Step earlier over Sturdy if you don't feel you need this extra defense.
Skill Swaps
Shadow Imbuement is a great early game skill, however as you solve Energy issues, increase the size and damage of Flurry, and reduce the cooldown of Shadow Clone and can activate it consistently, Shadow Imbuement becomes less and less important and can be removed. Similarly, after you find Umbrous, Dark Shroud no longer needs to be on your skill bar as you gain its benefits through combat. Caltrops and Smoke Grenade are great ways to boost damage output against harder enemies and can be added into the build. Shadow Step is a great option for even more mobility. Blade Shift and Combo Points can also be replaced if you are able to spam Flurry without running out of Energy. You accomplish this either by running Inner Sight or using Moni + Lum with Preparation. More info in the Flurry Rogue Endgame section below.
You can unlock 12 extra skill points for a total of 71. Check out our Season Rank Guide for more details.
Rogue Specialization
Combo Points - Cast 3 Basic skills to boost the damage of your next Core skill. Start with this specialization as it helps maintain Energy.
Preparation - Spend Energy to reset your Ultimate Skill, which in turn resets all your other skills. Swap to this once you are able to maintain constant casts of Flurry. There are a few ways to sustain your resources. Using Moni + Lum with Improved Flurry solves it immediately. Alternatively, you can use Advanced Flurry and prioritize ranks to Innervation by tempering 1-2 jewelry items. Another option is to use Inner Sight until you can sustain Energy without it.
If you happen to get your hands on Deathmask of Nirmitruq then you can immediately make this change.
Preparation allows you to reset your cooldowns when you cast Shadow Clone while also giving you some extra damage reduction.

Gear & Stat Priorities
To get started with your Flurry Rogue, focus on upgrading your melee weapons as their damage is the base for Cutthroat skills. Since this build does not use any Marksman skills for damage, your ranged weapon becomes a stat stick that does not need to be replaced often. While you don't have all of the desired temper manuals available, simply try to get anything useful on your gear until you get the right ones. For example, % Damage, Damage to Close, Vulnerable Damage, etc. all work as long as you activate their conditions. Likewise, you can temper Flurry Size and multiple defensive options such as Resistances, Life, Armor to fill gaps in your survivability. Tempering low level gear is relatively cheap, and the results can be very impactful.
Tip: For the early game, Elemental Surge Weapon Tempers are very powerful due to their high base damage, especially if you are leveling an alternate hero. If you find these, you may want to keep imprinting them on your weapons for an easy time. Also, collecting both of the Arrow Storm Aspects (Vengeful + Arrow Storms) turns you into a powerhouse during leveling.
Read more about itemization in our Beginner Articles about Damage, Defense and Stats.
Legendaries & Uniques
The Codex of Power is a collection of Legendary Aspects you can imprint onto Rare or Legendary items at the Occultist. They unlock after completing specific Dungeons located around Sanctuary or salvaging items with these powers. Check out our Map Tool to locate these Dungeons.
For leveling, there are a few powers that can significantly help us if we have the funds to imprint them. In addition, keep an eye out for powerful Unique items you may find for this or other builds.

Keep in mind that there are many more Aspects and Uniques that can be useful to multiple builds; this just lists some of the most impactful ones. While we usually recommend starting with Endgame Builds at level 60, you often can make them work earlier with these drops:

Runes
You can have up to two Runewords in your setup, each consisting of one Ritual and one Invocation Rune. Socket them in Two-Handed Weapons if your build calls for them, otherwise place them into your Armor pieces to replace normal gems. The Flurry Rogue focuses on the following combos:
Best in Slot
- Cir + Gar - Increasing your Critical Strike Chance is a great damage increase.
- Moni + Lum - This combination gives you infinite Energy when using Improved Flurry.
Alternative Choices
If you have access to higher level runes, you can also explore the following options:
- Thul - Mystical Frost Nova Freezes all nearby enemies and enables Frigid Finesse, while granting an additional 15%[X] damage multiplier to all enemies it hits.
- Poc - Another way of generating Offering while spending Energy.
- Kry - Vortex pulls in nearby enemies ensuring they do not leave your range.
- Yax - Easy way to generate offering by drinking potions, whilst also keeping your Unstable Elixirs active.
- Mot - Generates Dark Shroud for extra defense.
- Qua - A massive Movement Speed boost while leveling.

Mercenaries
Mercenaries are unlocked during the Vessel of Hatred campaign and assist you in battle. There are 4 separate Mercenaries to choose from, each with their own skill trees and abilities. You can have one hired (permanent) mercenary during solo play and a reinforcement who assists you from time to time in certain situations.
Hired: Varyana
She grants extra attack speed (cap 1) with Hysteria but more importantly a ton of healing via Taste of Flesh.
Reinforcement: Aldkin
We choose Field of Languish for extra damage reduction.

How To Level
In Diablo 4, you can level by completing the Campaign, collecting Grim Favors for the Tree of Whispers, completing Helltide activities, grinding Dungeons, clearing Strongholds, fighting in the Undercity of Kurast or interacting with the Seasonal Mechanics. While there are many ways to level up in Diablo 4, not all of them are equal.
Campaign Leveling
- For your first character in Diablo 4, completing the Campaign provides all the background lore information but is not necessary.
- The original Campaign is the slowest way to level, but it's worth experiencing the Campaign and Diablo 4's storyline at least once.
- To play Seasonal Content you need to have completed or skipped the Campaign.
- After finishing the campaign, you should focus on earning experience in Helltides by combining it with Grim Favors for the Tree of Whispers or completing Gathering Legion Events.
- Strongholds provide a big boost of experience for little time investment. Make sure to clear all of them after around level 50.
Vessel of Hatred Campaign
- This is the fastest way to level up in a fresh season.
- Stay on Normal difficulty and skip as many monsters as possible while rushing all main objectives for massive XP spikes.
- You can also just partially complete and skip the remaining Campaign at any time from the main menu to get an early boost until your build is online.
- After finishing the campaign, you should focus on earning experience in Helltides by combining it with Grim Favors for the Tree of Whispers or completing Gathering Legion Events.
- Strongholds provide a big boost of experience for little time investment. They are a good choice to finish the final levels quickly.
- Find the most efficient way of leveling your character in detail with our Speed Leveling Guide.
Seasonal / Alt Leveling
- Complete the Seasonal Questline in order to progress your Season Rank to unlock additional perks, loot and work on your Seasonal Powers.
- Preferably stay on Hard difficulty or above to benefit from the extra XP multipliers as long as your clear speed remains fast. Use power jumps (e.g. key passive, legendary drops) to bump up the difficulty.
- Complete the Dungeons needed for any Legendary Aspects from your Codex of Power.
- From level 1-60 you should focus on earning experience in Helltides by combining Helltide activities with Grim Favors for the Tree of Whispers or completing Gathering Legion Events.
- Strongholds provide a big boost of experience for little time investment. Make sure to clear all of them after around level 50.
- If you're playing an Alt, make sure to use Tempers when you have the materials to do so.

Tips and Tricks
- Imprint Important Aspects on Amulet
- It is a good idea to put your best Offensive Aspect on your Amulet, since it is usually not replaced as often as other gear.
- Compare Your Items
- Press Shift to activate item comparison. Use this build guide's Stat Priorities section to identify potential upgrades.
- Choose an Easy Difficulty
- Ideally, start on Normal or Hard difficulty for the extra XP modifier, then try to go higher when it's way too easy. If that slows you down noticeably, it's better to stay on a lower difficulty.
- Use Your Materials
- There's no point in holding on to your gold or materials for later. Use everything to speed up your journey to 60. If you're twinking, make sure to craft the Allowance Caches from the Alchemist at level 20 and if available, equip your Mythic Uniques at level 35 to make the leveling a breeze.
Speedrun Route
- If you're looking to min/max your time spent on the way to 60 instead of following a generic guideline, you need to use a specific strategy.
- This usually includes farming certain activities up to a specified level and then switching to other tasks while gathering XP in high density areas and pushing the difficulty as high as you can.
- We update this strategy seasonally in our Speed Leveling Guide.
Endgame Transition
As you approach level 60 with the Flurry Rogue, you unlock higher item power gear that represents a massive jump in character power. This is a good time to refresh your setup with new tempers and imprints.
After reaching level 60 and finishing the second Capstone Dungeon, Paragon Levels and The Pit unlock. Complete Tier 10 to enter Torment 1, where Diablo IV's Endgame begins.
At this point, your setup should look roughly like this before you dive into min/maxing with Aspects, Uniques, Mythics and more. With better gear, more levels and Glyphs, you can push further and eventually unlock higher difficulties for increased rewards.
This step marks the end of the leveling guide. Below is the Paragon setup to get you started in Torment difficulty but ideally you should now transition towards the endgame version of this build or choose another of your liking.
