Welcome to the Hammer of the Ancients (HotA) Barbarian Endgame Guide! This fan-favorite skill retains its position in Season 12 as the strongest Core Skill available, especially when it comes to killing bosses like the new Butchers !
Hammer of the Ancients Barbarian Endgame Build Guide for Diablo IV Season 12 - Slaughter
As a reminder, Hammer of the Ancients is all about blasting enemies, exploding Earthquakes all the while stacking maximum Fury to empower Furious Hammer of the Ancients. However, the skill normally does come with a few limitations.
- A naturally small area of effect, which we solve by imprinting the Aspect of Ancestral Force and using the power of Mantle of Mountain's Fury — both of which drastically extend our reach.
- Limits to how much Fury we can stack... that is, until the Blizzard team gifted us with a weapon-agnostic Ramaladni's Magnum Opus and a revamped Enhanced Hammer of the Ancients, all which massively increase our damage potential.
- Managing Earthquakes is key! Triggering the implicit affix Mantle of Mountain's Fury requires you to detonate an Earthquakes at least every 5 sec to maintain its powerful damage multiplier. To support this, Earthquakes and 100,000 Steps are used throughout your gearing progression.
In the late game, the build leverages the "Selig Low Life" combo that remains the strongest gearing setup of the season (even without Season 11 Sanctifications). Doing so massively increases our Fury pool and Damage while making sure to keep our Health as low as possible minimizes the damage redirected by Melted Heart of Selig, effectively allowing us to not care about defenses at all.. And with that... let's start smashing!
Requirements for this build
- Moni and Tec, as those will carry you in the early stage of the build
Note that information outside of Build Variants is described from the perspective of the Mythic variant.
赛季主题与构筑适配
The Season 12 theme brings Killstreaks and Bloodied Items to Diablo 4. Slay enemies in succession to begin a streak that grants increasingly greater benefits based on which affixes you roll on your gear in addition to seasonal reputation and experience. Tiers are divided as follows: Killstreak (0-99) - Carnage (100-249) - Devastation (250-499) - Bloodbath (500-999) - Massacre (1000-9000) - Fresh Meat! (9001+). For most instanced content types, you can typically expect to reach up to the 4th tier (Bloodbath). Additionally, you can find Bloodied Sigils for Nightmare Dungeons, Infernal Hordes and Lair Bosses that offer greater challenges and rewards (introducing "pseudo Torment 5").
Bloodied Items
Bloodied affixes are bonus affixes that can randomly roll on gear and come in three categories: Rampage (armor), Feast (weapons), Hunger (jewelry). The first two offer minor combat effects while the latter boosts specific loot drops, which doesn't impact your build. Recommended affixes for this build are:
- Rampage: Movement Speed (1 roll), Primary Core Stat, Attack Speed (max 1 roll)
- Feast: Berserking (preferred), Chain Hook (alternate)
- Hunger: Experience Gained or personal preference

技能与玩法
DISCLAIMER - Walking Arsenal outperforms other options thanks to massive damage multipliers, Attack Speed, permanent Unstoppable, and effortless Earthquake generation via 100,000 Steps. In practice, it only asks you to tap two low-maintenance “support” skills every ~15 seconds (which also synergize perfectly with Sabre of Tsasgal as well). Treat them like shouts, and you’ll adapt very quickly.
- (2H mace) Hammer of the Ancients is the core (literally) of the build and you’ll spam this nearly nonstop. Furious Hammer of the Ancients converts Fury into a massive multiplicative Critical Damage boost (and 100% crit chance), making Fury stacking one of your highest damage scalers.
- (Dual Wield) Frenzy along its enhanced node is tapped occasionally as a "Support" skill to trigger Belligerence , the Sabre of Tsasgal and Walking Arsenal's damage multipliers or jumpstart Fury
- (2H Slash) Mighty Throw as our third weapon-based skill; or second "Support" skill; to maintain Walking Arsenal. Adds a long-lasting Attack Speed boost and a damage multiplier from Sabre of Tsasgal—all on a short cooldown
- Ground Stomp as a triple-purpose support powerhouse (auto-cast via 100,000 Steps + Walking Arsenal without being on your skill bar)
- Spawns Earthquakes and activates their multipliers (Earthquakes and Mantle of Mountain's Fury implicit)
- Reduces the Cooldown of our Ultimate
- Generates Fury and pulls enemies together
- War Cry as our offensive Shout, grants us Berserking and a hefty damage multiplier.
- Call of the Ancients as our Ultimate. Gives Massive Damage, Movement and Attack Speed multipliers. The Ancients generate Fury every attack, allowing us to go Generatorless. At rank 5, it even feeds Sabre of Tsasgal's damage multipliers.
Skill Rotation
The Walking Arsenal might look intimidating, but it really isn't. Both Mighty Throw and Frenzy function as simple support abilities bringing various combat buffs and that you press, at worst, every 15 seconds—similar to shouts—while offering stronger synergy with Sabre of Tsasgal.
Buff Rotation - Once every 15 seconds
- (Walking Arsenal - Dual Wield buff) Frenzy, press it once. As it doesn't require to hit an enemy to give its bonus you can simply cast the skill into the air paired with the "hold position" button.
Buff Rotation - Whenever available
- Call of the Ancients whenever it's available to generate massive amounts of Fury and benefit from its many buffs
- Ground Stomp whenever it's available to pull in monsters
- War Cry for the massive damage boost
- (Walking Arsenal - Two Handed Slash buff) Mighty Throw as your Attack Speed steroid
Main Rotation
- (Walking Arsenal - Two Handed Bludge buff) Start spamming Hammer of the Ancients from a safe distance in the general direction of your foes while you'll automatically detonate the Earthquakes on the ground every 5 seconds (thanks to the Walking Arsenal x 100,000 Steps x Earthquakes combo), maintaining the massive HotA damage multiplier from your Unique Chest.
- Enjoy the regular Overpowers provided by the Xan Rune!
