FAQ

Welcome to the Lunging Strike Barbarian Endgame Guide! If you’ve spent any time cleaving your way through Sanctuary, you already know the power of Lunging Strike—a staple Basic Skill for every Barbarian (yes, looking at you Moni and Tec leveling diehards). In Season 12, it remains as one of the most dominant endgame setups yet again!

This season, Lunging Strike is all about rapid target-to-target jumps and pushing your damage to the limit, utilizing the following tools:

  • Guaranteed Overpowers thanks to the Moni +Xan Runeword.
  • Rapid full-circle dash-burst AoEs with the deadly combination of Hooves of the Mountain God, Paingorger's Gauntlets and Shard of Verathiel.
  • Massive damage multipliers from stacking Fury using Adaptability, Ramaladni's Magnum Opus and Hammer of the Ancients.

In the late game, the build leverages the "Selig Low Life" combo that remains the strongest gearing setup of the season (even without Season 11 Sanctifications). Doing so massively increases our Fury pool and Damage while making sure to keep our Health as low as possible minimizes the damage redirected by Melted Heart of Selig, effectively allowing us to not care about defenses at all.

So... are you ready to start Lunging your way through Season 12 yet?

Requirements for the Starter variant of this build

  • Moni and Tec, as those will carry you in the early stage of the build

Season 1 - Genesis
Lunging Strike Barbarian

The Season 12 theme brings Killstreaks and Bloodied Items to Diablo 4. Slay enemies in succession to begin a streak that grants increasingly greater benefits based on which affixes you roll on your gear in addition to seasonal reputation and experience. Tiers are divided as follows: Killstreak (0-99) - Carnage (100-249) - Devastation (250-499) - Bloodbath (500-999) - Massacre (1000-9000) - Fresh Meat! (9001+). For most instanced content types, you can typically expect to reach up to the 4th tier (Bloodbath). Additionally, you can find Bloodied Sigils for Nightmare Dungeons, Infernal Hordes and Lair Bosses that offer greater challenges and rewards (introducing "pseudo Torment 5").

Bloodied Items

Bloodied affixes are bonus affixes that can randomly roll on gear and come in three categories: Rampage (armor), Feast (weapons), Hunger (jewelry). The first two offer minor combat effects while the latter boosts specific loot drops, which doesn't impact your build. Recommended affixes for this build are:

  • Rampage: Movement Speed (1 roll), Primary Core Stat, Attack Speed (max 1 roll)
  • Feast: Berserking (preferred), Chain Hook (alternate)
  • Hunger: Experience Gained or personal preference

There is more to discover including the new seasonal Slaughterhouses and how to transform into the Butcher himself. Learn more details about the season theme in our full Season Guide.

技能与玩法

Season 1 - Genesis
Lunging Strike Barbarian
Gameplay Notes
  • (2H Mace) Lunging Strike is our main damaging skill, letting us dash to targets while generating Fury — and even spending it when using Shard of Verathiel.
  • Hammer of the Ancients as a Fury pool and Fury generation steroid thanks to the Enhanced Hammer of the Ancients stacks. Violent Hammer of the Ancients also provides a massive damage boost when your cast Overpowers on top of applying the Paingorger's Gauntlets mark in a small area.
  • Ground Stomp is a core supporting skill used for 4 reasons. It generates Earthquakes to trigger the multipliers from related Aspects, reduces the Cooldown of our Ultimate thanks to Strategic Ground Stomp, groups up monsters and applies the Paingorger's Gauntlets mark.
  • Wrath of the Berserker has the highest damage synergy with Unconstrained. It acts as our steroid Ultimate, further increasing our damage, Berserking uptime, Movement Speed and making us Unstoppable while active. Thanks to multiple Cooldown Reduction effects, we are able to keep it up permanently. Once you reach rank 5, it also doubles as a monster packing tool and applies the Paingorger's Gauntlets mark.
  • War Cry as our offensive Shout grants us Berserking, but more importantly, delivers a hefty damage multiplier. Paired with Marshal it also becomes a powerful Cooldown Reduction ability.
  • Challenging Shout as our defensive Shout gives us a massive damage reduction buff to make sure we outlive the harshest demons of Sanctuary. Paired with Marshal it also becomes a powerful Cooldown Reduction ability.
Rotation Breakdown

Skill Rotation

Buff Rotation - Whenever available

  • Wrath of the Berserker when up or at least every <10 seconds to prevent the stacked bonus from Supreme Wrath of the Berserker from resetting.
  • Ground Stomp when up or at least every 8 seconds.
  • War Cry for the massive damage boost.
  • Challenging Shout for the added defenses.

Main Rotation

  • Start spamming Lunging Strike to dash to your enemies and watch the magic happen as you jump around Overpowering your foes instantly.
  • Every 6 Lunging Strike (Moni + Xan), press Hammer of the Ancients in order to stack both Enhanced Hammer of the Ancients and Violent Hammer of the Ancients (with the guaranteed Overpower).

Tip: Ceh Rune, Ground Stomp, Wrath of the Berserker and Hammer of the Ancients all help you apply your Paingorger's Gauntlets effect to monsters. Make sure to use them often for better uptime.

Arsenal System

The Two-Handed Mace is used as our main skill's weapon to benefit from its Expertise effects and Skill Tree Passive bonuses like Wallop and Heavy Handed.

Technique slot: We choose the Polearm Expertise that allows us to deal x15% more damage as long as we remain Healthy and gain a x15% Lucky Hit Chance multiplier.

Season 1 - Genesis
Lunging Strike Barbarian

This section is designed to guide your Lunging Strike Barbarian from a fresh level 60 into the very late endgame using the three variants Starter, Ancestral and Mythic. At the final step, you should be fully decked out with a great all-rounder build. From there, follow the other min/max variants if you want to optimize around certain activities such as Push (Tower/Pit), Speedfarm and more.

If you are fresh in Torment 1 coming from a leveling guide, this is where you begin. Since only some Aspects can be guaranteed from Dungeon unlocks for the Codex of Power, focus on acquiring the additional aspects via gambling with Murmuring Obols or Pale Marks in the Mercenary Den.

Gear & Skills

Gear Setup
Skill Tree

Gameplay Changes

  • This variant is very similar to the starter Earthquake Barbarian using the Moni+Tec Runeword with related Aspects as your main source of damage. Unfortunately, most of this Basic Skill's power comes from Uniques, which we don't have (yet).

Skill rotation Changes

  • Cast your 5 buffs whenever they are available
  • Focus on spamming Lunging Strike to spawn Earthquake (which you can wifi-spawn with hold position)

Skill Tree Changes

  • Call of the Ancients: Since we don't have any way of spending resource for Supreme Wrath of the Berserker for now, we use a different Ultimate.
  • Passive changes (check the skill tree).

Gear Changes

  • Early on in your progression, focus on stacking Maximum Life, Armor and Single Resistances to survive. As you unlock higher power gear and Paragon points, you naturally scale your character into the higher difficulties and can start replacing some of these rolls with offensive stats or Uniques.
  • Prioritize hunting Varshan, Urivar and Beast in the Ice if you get the chance in order to get your Basic Skills-related Unique items. Then, transition into the Ancestral variant as soon as you get your hands on some of them.
  • TIP: Imprint an Iron Warrior Aspect to one of your defensive armor pieces as soon as possible, as Unstoppable sources are rare in this variant!
