FAQ

Welcome to the Penetrating Shot Rogue Endgame Guide! Are you looking for a "nuke the entire screen"-playstyle for Rogue? Well, this is it! A relatively easy-to-understand, powerful build that scales well into the endgame.

‍‍Penetrating Shot is a Core Skill that fires one massive, piercing arrow. The Trickshot amplifies your Area of Effect. This build truly comes online when you add Eaglehorn into the mix.

Rogue builds that can take advantage of Preparation are known to be powerful. This build does that extremely well since it spends tons of Energy, resetting all cooldowns quickly, whilst also generating barriers through Second Wind.

This is a very fun and satisfying build that doesn't require much to reach its potential. This guide teaches you the best way to tackle endgame with one of Rogue's best all-around builds, ‍‍the Penetrating Shot Rogue!

Note that information outside of Build Variants is described from the perspective of the Mythic variant.

Season 1 - Genesis
Flurry Rogue

The Season 12 theme brings Killstreaks and Bloodied Items to Diablo 4. Slay enemies in succession to begin a streak that grants increasingly greater benefits based on which affixes you roll on your gear in addition to seasonal reputation and experience. Tiers are divided as follows: Killstreak (0-99) - Carnage (100-249) - Devastation (250-499) - Bloodbath (500-999) - Massacre (1000-9000) - Fresh Meat! (9001+). For most instanced content types, you can typically expect to reach up to the 4th tier (Bloodbath). Additionally, you can find Bloodied Sigils for Nightmare Dungeons, Infernal Hordes and Lair Bosses that offer greater challenges and rewards (introducing "pseudo Torment 5").

Bloodied Items

Bloodied affixes are bonus affixes that can randomly roll on gear and come in three categories: Rampage (armor), Feast (weapons), Hunger (jewelry). The first two offer minor combat effects while the latter boosts specific loot drops, which doesn't impact your build. Recommended affixes for this build are:

  • Rampage: +% Attack Speed, +% Cooldown Reduction+Maximum Life
  • Feast: Gain Berserking
  • Hunger: Increased chance for Hunger Items

There is more to discover including the new seasonal Slaughterhouses and how to transform into the Butcher himself. Learn more details about the season theme in our full Season Guide.

技能与玩法

Penetrating Shot Rogue
Gameplay Notes
  • Penetrating Shot is your main ability.
  • Dash gives you incredible mobility to fly across the battlefield and an easy way to get out of tough situations.
  • Caltrops is great for both Chill and Freeze uptime for Frigid Finesse, and an overall damage buff the longer enemies are in the trap.
  • Smoke Grenade helps you crowd control enemies, adds a powerful damage modifier, and is your way of activating Alchemical Advantage.
  • Shadow Clone is your Ultimate that grants Unstoppable, 20% Damage Reduction, as well as trigger No Witnesses and Vehement Brawler's. It also helps proc the cutthroat part of Close Quarters Combat.
  • Dark Shroud is your main defensive ability. You can use Umbrous on your chest or pants to generate the shadows and put Shadow Step on your bar for even more mobility (Grasp of Shadow provides ranks to Shadow Step, so you don't need to allocate points to it in the skill tree).
Rotation Breakdown

Skill Rotation

The general idea is to gather enemies together to ensure each of our attacks are hitting as many targets as possible. Pay attention to the bounces from Eaglehorn to ensure they're hitting your target twice.

  • Shadow Clone - Activate near monsters to activate Close Quarters Combat, gain Unstoppable, and to increase your damage output.
  • Dash (or alternatively Shadow Step) to reposition for better shots, get out of sticky situations, and travel more quickly.
  • (On Elites & Bosses) Drop your Caltrops and keep them inside the area to maintain the Enhanced Caltrops debuff.
  • (On Elites & Bosses) Throw Smoke Grenade for a 25% damage buff.
  • Penetrating Shot - Spam it as much as possible and pay attention to the bounces from Eaglehorn to ensure you're hitting targets twice.

Class Mechanic

Rogue Specialization

Preparation - Spend Energy to reset your Ultimate Skill, which in turn resets all your other skills.

This allows you to reset your cooldowns when you cast Shadow Clone while giving you some extra damage reduction. See the FAQ and Mechanics section for help on improving your Energy Recovery.

Season 1 - Genesis
Penetrating Shot Rogue

This section is designed to guide your Penetrating Shot Rogue from a fresh level 60 into the very late endgame using the three variants Starter, Ancestral and Mythic. At the final step, you should be fully decked out with a great all-rounder build. From there, follow the other min/max variants if you want to optimize around certain activities such as Push (Tower/Pit), Speedfarm and more.

If you are fresh in Torment 1 coming from a leveling guide, this is where you begin. Since only some Aspects can be guaranteed from Dungeon unlocks for the Codex of Power, focus on acquiring the additional aspects via gambling with Murmuring Obols or Pale Marks in the Mercenary Den.

Gear & Skills

Gear Setup
Skill Tree
  • Early on in your progression, focus on stacking Maximum Life to survive. As you unlock higher power gear and Paragon points, you naturally scale your character into the higher difficulties and can start replacing some of these rolls with offensive stats or uniques.
  • Umbrous is an important survivability tool for many Rogue builds. If you haven't found it, use either Mot, Enshrouding, or Dark Shroud on your bar for extra defense.
  • Penetrating Shot can be difficult to sustain without multiple Innervation tempers on your jewelry. You can also use Elixir of Resourcefulness II, and prioritize resource affixes like Energy Per Second, or Lucky Hit: Chance to Restore Primary Resources for easier sustain. Replacing one of your runes with Lum also helps. Another option is to use Inner Sight until you can sustain Energy without it.
  • Prioritize farming the unique bow Eaglehorn from Beast in Ice since it's an extremely large buff to the Penetrating Shot Rogue.

Guide Notes

Take a look into this section for a deeper dive on frequently asked questions, common mistakes and the underlying mechanics of how the Penetrating Shot Rogue works.

Frequently Asked Questions

The build works really well when you decimate everything in seconds, but may get overwhelmed if fights are long against high level monsters. There are several adjustments you can make when you have trouble with more difficult content:

  • Use defensive consumables (Reddamine Buzz, Soothing Spices, Elixir of Fortitude II).
  • Roll Maximum Life instead of offensive stats on as many pieces as possible.
  • Kite enemies when they become Unstoppable.
  • Replace an offensive rune with Xal or Que.
  • Prioritize more defensive Aspects, like Undying or Enshrouding.

Mechanics

  • Dark Shroud stacks Damage Reduction additively for each active shadow. Due to the additive stacking, each increase in the skill's rank and active shadows boosts your survivability exponentially.
  • Shadows have a 1.5 seconds cooldown between losing stacks, but the Damage Reduction still applies depending on how many are active at all times.
  • At maximum stacks, your effective hit points (EHP) scale as follows in these examples:
    • Rank 1: 66.6% more EHP
    • Rank 5: 92.3% more EHP
    • Rank 10: 138.1% more EHP
    • Rank 15: 215% more EHP
    • Rank 20: 354.5% more EHP

BD 总结

Season 1 - Genesis
Penetrating Shot Rogue
Build Summary

The Penetrating Shot Rogue is an overall powerhouse that excels at destroying packs of monsters with impactful explosions.

Key Takeaways
  • This build flies around the map with Dash and covers the screen in projectiles thanks to Trickshot and Eaglehorn.
  • Position yourself so that your bounces from Eaglehorn hit your targets twice.
  • We're spending a lot of Energy giving us a permanent barrier with Second Wind and making us reset our cooldowns frequently with Preparation.
  • Focus on effects that support your Energy generation (for example tempering ranks to Innervation, and using Lum rune), in order to sustain your constant spam of Penetrating Shot.
  • Enjoy this simple, yet fun, ranged Rogue Build!
