FAQ

The Rake Spiritborn Endgame Guide utilizes the Gorilla and Eagle Spirit Halls combined with powerful permanent Critical Strikes to melt your enemies! Your main skill Rake is used to stack Ferocity and reduce all of your Cooldowns on every single use.

You convert your Armor into pure damage through Unyielding Hits while guaranteeing permanent Critical Strikes through your Rod of Kepeleke.

You zoom around the battlefield by utilizing Ravager, while grouping up all your enemies with The Protector.

Due to Gorilla's innate great defensive capabilities, you become very tanky, very fast. Your defenses also get amplified by using Counterattack as well as Armored Hide.

All in all, the Rake Spiritborn is an AoE powerhouse that offers a unique way to play the class and can take on the highest challenges in the game. Let's get started!

Note that information outside of Build Variants is described from the perspective of the Mythic variant.

Season 1 - Genesis
Rake Spiritborn

The Season 12 theme brings Killstreaks and Bloodied Items to Diablo 4. Slay enemies in succession to begin a streak that grants increasingly greater benefits based on which affixes you roll on your gear in addition to seasonal reputation and experience. Tiers are divided as follows: Killstreak (0-99) - Carnage (100-249) - Devastation (250-499) - Bloodbath (500-999) - Massacre (1000-9000) - Fresh Meat! (9001+). For most instanced content types, you can typically expect to reach up to the 4th tier (Bloodbath). Additionally, you can find Bloodied Sigils for Nightmare Dungeons, Infernal Hordes and Lair Bosses that offer greater challenges and rewards (introducing "pseudo Torment 5").

Bloodied Items

Bloodied affixes are bonus affixes that can randomly roll on gear and come in three categories: Rampage (armor), Feast (weapons), Hunger (jewelry). The first two offer minor combat effects while the latter boosts specific loot drops, which doesn't impact your build. Recommended affixes for this build are:

  • Rampage: % Dexterity, but in the early stages of the build Cooldown Reduction, Maximum Life, Critical Strike Chance and Movement Speed can be very useful to hit caps
  • Feast: Berserking, apply Vulnerable, Hook
  • Hunger: increased Chance for Hunger Items

There is more to discover including the new seasonal Slaughterhouses and how to transform into the Butcher himself. Learn more details about the season theme in our full Season Guide.

Gameplay Notes
  • Rake is our main ability. While it doesn't contribute any damage, it's what we use to trigger all other effects.
  • Ravager lets you dash around the battlefield with ease and provides a comfy, zoomy playstyle.
  • Rock Splitter is placed on the bar only for Resilient. You do not use Rock Splitter.
  • Counterattack grants you additional Dodge Chance and makes you Dodge all direct attacks when activated.
  • Armored Hide is our defensive tool and main source of Resolve. Keep an eye on your Resolve stacks and activate it as needed.
  • The Protector grants Damage Reduction, deals damage and generates tons of Barrier.
  • In T1 Starter: Vortex lets you group up enemies with ease.
  • One point has to be added in any basic skill in order to unlock clusters further down the tree.
Rotation Breakdown

Skill Rotation

  • Vortex or The Protector enemies to group them up and knock them down to engage.
  • Spam Rake at all times to deal damage.
  • Keep up Ravager, Counterattack and Armored Hide as much as possible. It can be beneficial to hold these abilities for upcoming Elites or Bosses.
  • Activate The Protector as often as possible for various buffs like Supremacy and Resolution.
  • Focus on using Intricacy for Vortex and Ravager during a run, then for Armored Hide and Counterattack during a boss fight.

Spiritborn Spirit Hall

Primary: Gorilla deals 150% of your Thorns as damage on every attack, while also generating Barrier.

Secondary: Eagle provides additional Critical Strikes every other hit and a damage multiplier.

Season 1 - Genesis
Rake Spiritborn

This section is designed to guide your Rake Spiritborn from a fresh level 60 into the very late endgame using the three variants Starter, Ancestral and Mythic. At the final step, you should be fully decked out with a great all-rounder build. From there, follow the other min/max variants if you want to optimize around certain activities such as Push (Tower/Pit), Speedfarm and more.

If you are fresh in Torment 1 coming from a leveling guide, this is where you begin. Since only some Aspects can be guaranteed from Dungeon unlocks for the Codex of Power, focus on acquiring the additional aspects via gambling with Murmuring Obols or Pale Marks in the Mercenary Den.

Gear & Skills

Class Mechanic
  • Early on in your progression, focus on stacking Maximum Life to survive. As you unlock higher power gear and Paragon points, you naturally scale your character into the higher difficulties and can start replacing some of these rolls with offensive stats or uniques.
  • Vital Strikes and Eagle solve your Resource generation. If you are having problem, change Vortex for Rock Splitter or swap from Advantageous Rake to Rampant Rake.
  • "Lucky Hit: Restore Resource" (on weapon or gloves) and "Lucky Hit: Make Enemies Vulnerable" (on gloves, Amulet and Rings) is a key roll to shoot for.
  • Try to maximize your uptime on 100% Block Chance for Redirected Force.
    • Either keep up Armored Hide, or have enough Resolve to be at 100% Block Chance through Interdiction.

Guide Notes

Take a look into this section for a deeper dive on frequently asked questions, common mistakes and the underlying mechanics of how the Rake Spiritborn works.

Frequently Asked Questions

The build works really well when you decimate everything in seconds, but may get overwhelmed if fights are long against high level monsters. There are several adjustments you can make when you have trouble with more difficult content:

  • Use defensive consumables (Reddamine Buzz, Soothing Spices, Elixir of Fortitude II).
  • Roll Maximum Life instead of offensive stats on as many pieces as possible.
  • Kite enemies when they become Unstoppable.
  • Replace an offensive rune with Mot, Que or Xal.

Mechanics

  • Counterattack can stack a maximum duration of 6 seconds, which can be refreshed indefinitely with enough cooldown reduction.
  • There is no forced gap or downtime in the 100% dodge effect.
  • Some damage over time and ground effects cannot be dodged, even if they hit instead of dealing DoT damage. Most notably, Explosive Elites are very dangerous when your survivability greatly depends on high uptime of Counterattack.

Noteworthy undodgeable effects:

  • Bartuc: Nothing
  • Varshan: Nothing
  • Grigoire: Pillar beams, ground tiles
  • Zir: Blood Pools
  • Beast: Line patterns, star pattern
  • Urivar: Triangle slam, spear zaps
  • Duriel: Spit, circle slam, devour
  • Andariel: Poison bolt, ground circles, fire beam, mega beam, lightning ground effect, outside storm
  • Harbinger: Ground circles, jump, fireball spit, doggos
  • Belial: Everything
  • Pit shadows: Lilith slams, Lilith waves, Balrog mortars
  • Elite affixes: Explosive, Fire Enchanted
