Rend Barbarian Leveling Guide for Diablo IV Season 12 - Slaughter

by kondyss/Season 12 - Slaughter/Last Updated: 2026年4月27日Maxroll 导入

Welcome to the Diablo 4 Rend Barbarian Leveling Guide! If you enjoy running around watching healthbars depleting in a single slash, then this is a setup for you!

Rend is one of the highest base damage abilities in the game which works really well for leveling. It is also one of the easiest builds to level with due to its inherent ability to generate Fury from Furious Rend. On top of that, grabbing Slaking Aspect early on lets you enjoy carving your way through enemies non-stop!

As in most builds, your damage comes from multiple sources to elevate your early experience. Most of your fights start with a Leap in the middle of an enemy pack. After all, we are almighty warriors. There is no need to be afraid of some ordinary demons. Use Ground Stomp to apply Vulnerable and make enemies tremble from the sight of Wrath of the Berserker. Then, a few quick slashes from Rend does the trick.

This guide takes you all the way to Level 60 so you can blast the endgame. Let's get started!

Season 1 - Genesis
Rend Barbarian

The Season 12 theme brings Killstreaks and Bloodied Items to Diablo 4. Slay enemies in succession to begin a streak that grants increasingly greater benefits based on which affixes you roll on your gear in addition to seasonal reputation and experience. Tiers are divided as follows: Killstreak (0-99) - Carnage (100-249) - Devastation (250-499) - Bloodbath (500-999) - Massacre (1000-9000) - Fresh Meat! (9001+). For most instanced content types, you can typically expect to reach up to the 4th tier (Bloodbath). Additionally, you can find Bloodied Sigils for Nightmare Dungeons, Infernal Hordes and Lair Bosses that offer greater challenges and rewards (introducing "pseudo Torment 5").

Bloodied Items

Bloodied affixes are bonus affixes that can randomly roll on gear and come in three categories: Rampage (armor), Feast (weapons), Hunger (jewelry). The first two offer minor combat effects while the latter boosts specific loot drops, which doesn't impact your build. Recommended affixes for this build are:

  • Rampage: Movement Speed per Kill Streak Tier, Critical Strike Chance per Kill Streak Tier
  • Feast: Every X Kills, restore X% of your maximum Primary Resource, Every X Kills, reset 1 random Cooldown
  • Hunger: Increased Experience from Kill Streaks

There is more to discover including the new seasonal Slaughterhouses and how to transform into the Butcher himself. Learn more details about the season theme in our full Season Guide.

Gameplay Notes

Getting Started

Current Patch allows us to unlock Core and Defensive Skills by putting only one point into the previous category, so we can use the first few levels to pick most of the Skills we end up actually using. Starting with Lunging Strike, a great choice because of its built-in dash to the target. It also deals more damage against enemies at full life, which makes it perfect to start the fight with. Its primary purpose, however, is to generate Fury to fuel our main skill.

Rend

Rend is the centerpiece of this build. It is a close ranged attack that swipes in an arc shape in front of you. We invest 1 point into Rend before taking Enhanced Rend and Furious Rend.

Ground Stomp and Shout

Ground Stomp with its upgrade, Tactical Ground Stomp, deals tons of damage and also applies Vulnerable effect on enemies. Consider it your single target ability to deal with Elites and Bosses. Our quality of life increases as we pick up Rallying Cry, which is incredible because it gives us Fury generation and Movement Speed.

Leap

We grab Leap for more added mobility and terrain traversal. Keep in mind that with Power Leap upgrade, engaging groups of enemies generates Fury.

Rotation Breakdown

Wrath of the Berserker

Our Ultimate skill of choice is Wrath of the Berserker. It is one of the best sources of Berserking. It also makes us Unstoppable, quite literally! Spamming Rend while the buff is active grants us even more damage. Fighting this way makes us feel like the mightiest warrior that ever stepped through Sanctuary!

Key Passive

We finally pick up our Key Passive skill Walking Arsenal, which has great synergy with Rend. Bonus attack speed allows you to apply severe bleeds on the target. All of these things combined drastically speed up our leveling process and help alleviate any resource issues that may be present early on.

Final Journey to Level 60

At this point, most of the key synergies are unlocked and the gameplay loop is almost complete. As you level up, you unlock a lot of extra points that go into various offensive and defensive passives or max out certain skills. Check out the skills progression above to see where to put your points as you go, but feel free to deviate from the order displayed as necessary. For example, if you need extra mobility, you may pick up Charge instead of Wrath of the Berserker.

You can unlock 12 extra skill points for a total of 71. Check out our Season Rank Guide for more details.

Barbarian Arsenal System

The Arsenal System allows Barbarians to use a specific weapon for every attack skill, each granting different Bonuses. The Technique Slot grants us 1 additional Arsenal Power of our choosing for every attack. It's important to remember that the Weapon Expertise bonus we get from our currently equipped weapon and the Weapon Expertise bonus we get from the Weapon Technique slot stack with each other.

Learn more details and how to unlock this system in our full Barbarian Class Overview.

How the Arsenal System Impacts Leveling

Our choice is simple while leveling as the Rend Barbarian. We automatically get a power from the Two-Handed Slashing Weapon we use, and always apply Bleed. Remember that you must have a weapon leveled up to at least 1 before it can be equipped in the Technique Slot!

Weapon Type - Polearms are the best weapons for leveling as a Rend Barbarian. It is very easy to benefit from the bonuses against Vulnerable enemies that this weapon type provides.

We assign our Two-Handed Slashing weapon to Rend. This way our base Bleed will reach as high as it can.

As usual, we assign Lunging Strike to One-Handed weapons. Faster attacks will result in generating Fury faster.

To fulfill Walking Arsenal conditions, Leap need to be assigned to Two-Handed Bludgeoning weapon.

Weapon Technique - Two-Handed Sword Expertise is the best choice for Rend since it's a direct multiplier to all of our Bleeding damage.

Gear & Stat Priorities

Season 1 - Genesis
Rend Barbarian

To get started as a Rend Barbarian, always use your highest DPS Two-Handed Slashing Weapon. Your other weapons are simply stat sticks, so their DPS is secondary. Otherwise, follow the priority list below. While you don't have all of the desired temper manuals available, simply try to get anything useful on your gear until you acquire the right ones. For example, % Damage, Damage to Close, Vulnerable Damage, etc. all work as long as you activate their conditions. Likewise, you can temper multiple defensive options such as Resistances, Life, Armor to fill gaps in your survivability. Tempering low level gear is relatively cheap and the results can be very impactful!

Tip: For the early game, Elemental Surge Weapon Tempers are very powerful due to their high base damage, especially if you are twinking. If you find these, you may want to keep imprinting them on your weapons for an easy time.

Read more about itemization in our Beginner Articles about Damage, Defense and Stats.

Legendaries & Uniques

Season 1 - Genesis
Rend Barbarian

The Codex of Power is a collection of Legendary Aspects you can imprint onto Rare or Legendary items at the Occultist. They unlock after completing specific Dungeons located around Sanctuary or salvaging items with these powers. Check out our Map Tool to locate these Dungeons.

For leveling, there are a few powers that can significantly help us if we have the funds to imprint them. In addition, keep an eye out for powerful Unique items you may find for this or other builds.

Great Uniques for this build

  1. Ring of the Ravenous
  2. Rage of Harrogath
  3. Fields of Crimson (Add Rupture instead of Wrath of the Berserker)

Jackpot Drops

As you level up, you may get lucky and find some great random drops. Some of these can massively amplify your power and speed up the leveling by switching to another build. Keep in mind that there are many more Aspects and Uniques that can be useful to multiple builds; this just lists some of the most impactful ones. While we usually recommend starting with Endgame Builds at level 60, you often can make them work earlier with these drops:

Build-defining Combinations

  1. Tec + Executioner's + Incendiary Fissures (enables the Endgame Earthquake Barbarian)
  2. Hooves of the Mountain God + Shard of Verathiel (enables the Endgame Bash Barbarian, Endgame Lunging Strike Barbarian, Endgame Frenzy Barbarian, Endgame Flay Barbarian)
  3. Tec + Mantle of Mountain's Fury (enables the Endgame Hammer of the Ancients Barbarian)
  4. The Third Blade (enables the Endgame Mighty Throw Barbarian)

Runes

Season 1 - Genesis
Rend Barbarian

You can have up to two Runewords in your setup, each consisting of one Ritual and one Invocation Rune. Socket them in Two-Handed Weapons if your build calls for them, otherwise place them into your Armor pieces to replace normal gems. The Whirlwind Barbarian focuses on the following combos:

Best in Slot

  • Moni + Tec - Potent mixture to add even more damage to our setup. Jump into the heat of the battle with Lunging Strike to spawn Earthquake.
  • Cir + Ceh - After casting 5 Skills, youl spawn an army of ethereal wolves that aid you in battle. This easy to find Runeword helps you constantly apply Vulnerable on your enemies, boosting your damage tremendously.

Alternative choices

As long as you haven't unlocked the final setup or found the top Runes, you can also benefit from these options:

  • Lith - Generates offering while standing still. Use as a replacement for Moni if it suits your gameplay more.
  • Mot - Generates Dark Shroud.
  • Lum - Good replacement for Ceh if you feel like you run out of Fury too much.
  • Vex - Grants more Skill Ranks. If you manage to time your cooldowns with this rune, you will deal significantly more damage.

Learn more about Runes and how they work in our dedicated Runewords Overview.

Mercenaries

Season 1 - Genesis
Rend Barbarian

Mercenaries are unlocked during the Vessel of Hatred campaign and assist you in battle. There are 4 separate Mercenaries to choose from, each with their own skill trees and abilities. You can have one hired (permanent) mercenary during solo play and a reinforcement who assists you from time to time in certain situations.

Hired: Raheir

He provides us with Fortify, Stuns, some extra damage, and more Armor. However, his best is ability Valiance, which prevents us from getting one-shot every 30 seconds. Beware that he's not present when playing in groups. You will lose Raheir's Guard, so make sure you remain Armor capped without him.

Reinforcement: Varyana

We choose Ancient Harpoons to gather enemies so our Rend can slash through enemies quicker.

Learn more about Mercenaries and how they work in our dedicated Mercenaries Overview.

How To Level

Season 1 - Genesis
Rend Barbarian

In Diablo 4, you can level by completing the Campaign, collecting Grim Favors for the Tree of Whispers, completing Helltide activities, grinding Dungeons, clearing Strongholds, fighting in the Undercity of Kurast or interacting with the Seasonal Mechanics. While there are many ways to level up in Diablo 4, not all of them are equal.

Vessel of Hatred Campaign

  • This is the fastest way to level up in a fresh season.
  • Stay on Normal difficulty and skip as many monsters as possible while rushing all main objectives for massive XP spikes.
  • You can also just partially complete and skip the remaining Campaign at any time from the main menu to get an early boost until your build is online.
  • After finishing the campaign, you should focus on earning experience in Helltides by combining it with Grim Favors for the Tree of Whispers or completing Gathering Legion Events.
  • Strongholds provide a big boost of experience for little time investment. They are a good choice to finish the final levels quickly.
  • Find the most efficient way of leveling your character in detail with our Speed Leveling Guide.

Endgame Transition

Season 1 - Genesis
Rend Barbarian

As you approach level 60 with the Rend Barbarian, you unlock higher item power gear that represents a massive jump in character power. This is a good time to refresh your setup with new tempers and imprints.

After reaching level 60 and finishing the second Capstone Dungeon, Paragon Levels and The Pit unlock. Complete Tier 10 to enter Torment 1, where Diablo IV's Endgame begins.

At this point, your setup should look roughly like this before you dive into min/maxing with Uniques, Mythics & Masterworking. With better gear, more levels and Glyphs, you can push further and eventually unlock higher difficulties for increased rewards.

This step marks the end of the leveling guide. Below is the Paragon setup to get you started in Torment difficulty, but ideally, you should now transition towards the endgame version of a Bleed build.
