Touch of Death Spiritborn Endgame Build Guide for Diablo IV Season 12 - Slaughter

FAQ

Welcome to the Touch of Death Spiritborn Endgame Guide! This build relies on Centipede Skills and focuses on high Poison damage output. Touch of Death has a small direct damage component with a huge DoT, but what's really doing the damage here are the explosions from the Insatiable Aspect. This causes your damage to have a slight delay as you need to hit 4 times before you deal real damage, but when it does hit, it goes nuclear.
In order words: hold down right click until...kaboom!

With the Poised Touch of Death upgrade you remove the cooldown and unlock its full potential as a Core Skill. We combined this with Rod of Kepeleke in order to remove the Vigor cost and give us a new way to spend our Vigor. Now throw in a high rolled Ring of the Midnight Sun to make it so when we Crit our Vigor gets refunded back to us. Next we add a bunch of resource generation through things like Measured Ravager and Vigorous in order to make it so we spend and refund our entire Vigor pool with every attack.

Your Primary Spirit Hall is Gorilla for the Barrier generation and in order to turn all our skills into Gorilla skills allowing us to give them tons of skill ranks with Hesha e Kesungi, and your Secondary Spirit Hall is Jaguar for the extra attack speed from Ferocity.

All in all, the Touch of Death Spiritborn offers an interesting Poison proc playstyle that melts their enemies. Let's get started!

Season 1 - Genesis
Touch of Death Spiritborn

The Season 12 theme brings Killstreaks and Bloodied Items to Diablo 4. Slay enemies in succession to begin a streak that grants increasingly greater benefits based on which affixes you roll on your gear in addition to seasonal reputation and experience. Tiers are divided as follows: Killstreak (0-99) - Carnage (100-249) - Devastation (250-499) - Bloodbath (500-999) - Massacre (1000-9000) - Fresh Meat! (9001+). For most instanced content types, you can typically expect to reach up to the 4th tier (Bloodbath). Additionally, you can find Bloodied Sigils for Nightmare Dungeons, Infernal Hordes and Lair Bosses that offer greater challenges and rewards (introducing "pseudo Torment 5").

Bloodied Items

Bloodied affixes are bonus affixes that can randomly roll on gear and come in three categories: Rampage (armor), Feast (weapons), Hunger (jewelry). The first two offer minor combat effects while the latter boosts specific loot drops, which doesn't impact your build. Recommended affixes for this build are:

  • Rampage: Revel
  • Feast: Tenderize
  • Hunger: Tenderize

技能与玩法

Season 1 - Genesis
Touch of Death Spiritborn
Gameplay Notes
  • Touch of Death is your main ability. It applies a huge Poison Damage over Time and spawns swarms that hatch from the targeted enemy. With a cap of only 3 swarms, the oldest gets replaced while spamming the skill, triggering Insatiable which is your main damage output.
  • Armored Hide is your defensive tool and an important source of Resolve. Keep an eye on your stacks and activate it as needed for a powerful defensive buff together with Perseverance.
  • Soar is used for its mobility and ability to apply Vulnerable to enemies.
  • Scourge is used for the Fear and a large damage increase vs crowd controlled enemies, and helps fuel your Vigor generation until you can fully refund your Vigor with a Ring of the Midnight Sun.
  • Ravager increases your Vigor generation, and lets you dash to your target every time you use Touch of Death.
  • The Protector is your Ultimate Skill of choice as it is our main source of Barrier, pulls enemies together with Hesha e Kesungi, as well as making enemies deal less damage and take more damage.
Rotation Breakdown

Skill Rotation

  • Use The Protector to start any fight pulling enemies together, its also your source of Barrier and standing inside the circle is what keeps you alive.
  • Use Soar to jump on the grouped up enemies and apply Vulnerable to them, repeat when the Vulnerable debuff falls off the enemies.
  • Use Ravager any time its of off cooldown and not active to maintain the increased Vigor generation from Measured Ravager.
  • Use Armored Hide when it's available to become Unstoppable, gain some damage reduction, and replenish your Resolve.
  • Hold down Touch of Death until everything is dead.
  • Use Scourge when needed to Fear and deal increased damage enemies

Spiritborn Spirit Hall

Primary: ‍Gorilla Primary Hall provides the Gorilla tag to all skill, granting you an additional avenue of increasing your damage. Additionally every attack grants Barrier.

Secondary: ‍Jaguar Secondary Hall lets you generate Ferocity when you kill enemies or hit a boss giving you increased attack speed.

Season 1 - Genesis
Touch of Death Spiritborn

This section is designed to guide your Touch of Death Spiritborn from a fresh level 60 into the very late endgame using the three variants Starter, Ancestral and Mythic. At the final step, you should be fully decked out with a great all-rounder build. From there, follow the other min/max variants if you want to optimize around certain activities such as Push (Tower/Pit), Speedfarm and more.

If you are fresh in Torment 1 coming from a leveling guide, this is where you begin. Since only some Aspects can be guaranteed from Dungeon unlocks for the Codex of Power, focus on acquiring the additional aspects via gambling with Murmuring Obols or Pale Marks in the Mercenary Den.

Gear & Skills

Gear Setup
Skill Tree
  • Early on in your progression, focus on stacking Maximum Life to survive. As you unlock higher power gear and Paragon points, you naturally scale your character into the higher difficulties and can start replacing some of these rolls with offensive stats or uniques.
  • Rod of Kepeleke is the core of the build allowing us to use Touch of Death without spending vigor but causing us to use 100% of our vigor if we use Touch of Death while at 100% vigor causing it to Crit and deal bonus damage. Eventually the goal of this build is to get you to the point that you are able to spend and refund 100% of your Vigor with every use of Touch of Death.
  • Early on you want to use Poc + Que for more Barrier generation and Cir + Kry to trigger Vortex and pull enemies together.
  • Since you don't have Ring of the Midnight Sun yet you want to stack as much resource generation so that you can trigger the automatic crit from Rod of Kepeleke more often, because of this you also want to use Reinforced Scourge for some constant Vigor generation.
  • Unyielding Hits is a massive damage buff that you activate automatically thanks to the Gorilla primary hall bonus. With it you can convert excess armor into more damage. For the maximum 1500 additional Weapon Damage your character sheet needs to show 5000 Armor.
  • Insatiable is the main focus of this build and causes your swarms to burst for massive amounts of damage based on the damage they would have dealt over their full duration. Because of this however there is a slight delay to this builds damage, this is because our swarms only burst when we have the maximum number of swarms out (3) and try to create another one (4th) making our oldest swarm (1st) burst so the new one can replace it. So basically you just have to attack four times and then everything explodes.

Season 1 - Genesis
Touch of Death Spiritborn

This section describes how to optimize your Touch of Death Spiritborn with the right Item Affixes, Runes and Mercenary choices.

To enable the Touch of Death Spiritborn to perform optimally, hunt for these stats on your gear with good rolls and aim to Temper ⚒️ & Masterwork Crit them accordingly. Keep in mind that certain stats, such as Extra Size Tempers, Attack Speed, Critical Strike Chance and more, have caps that may affect your priorities according to the items and Paragon points available at that moment.

Recommended Endgame Stat Thresholds
18+ total Touch of Death ranks
275+ Maximum Vigor
80%+ Attack Speed
1800+ Dexterity
Recommended Endgame Stat Thresholds 2
18000+ Armor
2750+ All Resistances
8500+ Life
Enough resource generation that Ring of the Midnight Sun restores 100% of your Vigor

Recommended Consumables: Soothing Spices, Reddamine Buzz, Queen's Supreme & Elixir of Resourcefulness II.

Stat Priorities
Group 1
  1. 1. 35% roll on Ring of the Midnight Sun requires 186% resource generation
  2. 2. 40% roll on Ring of the Midnight Sun requires 150% resource generation
  3. 3. 50% roll on Ring of the Midnight Sun requires 100% resource generation

It is critical that Ring of the Midnight Sun fully restores your Vigor every time you hit. If it doesn't you won't do any damage. You will need at least 100% resource generation with a perfect 50% roll on Ring of the Midnight Sun. Here are a few data points showing Ring of the Midnight Sun roll and the required Resource generation to fully restore Vigor:

  • 35% roll on Ring of the Midnight Sun requires 186% resource generation
  • 40% roll on Ring of the Midnight Sun requires 150% resource generation
  • 50% roll on Ring of the Midnight Sun requires 100% resource generation

This means that a good affix on Ring of the Midnight Sun is required to have a chance of making the combo with Rod of Kepeleke work. Resource Generation stacks multiplicatively with each source. In this build sources are: Intelligence, Vigorous, Measured Ravager, Paragon nodes on the Sapping board. This leaves you with Vigorous ranks from Rod of Kepeleke and/or Resource Generation tempers on jewelry to finish the rest.

With good endgame gear, one of these is enough, but before that you may need to add extra tempers and masterwork crits ranks to achieve this result. Stacking more Resource Generation after you have reached the critical point no longer provides any benefit, and if you are overshooting, you instead want to go with Resource Cost Reduction (tempers on Rings), which increases the damage done by Rod of Kepeleke's consumption effect. Learn more about this interaction in the mechanics section below.

Guide Notes

Take a look into this section for a deeper dive on frequently asked questions, common mistakes and the underlying mechanics of how the Touch of Death Spiritborn works.

Frequently Asked Questions

The build works really well when you decimate everything in seconds, but may get overwhelmed if fights are long against high level monsters. There are several adjustments you can make when you have trouble with more difficult content:

  • Use defensive consumables (Reddamine Buzz, Soothing Spices, Elixir of Fortitude II).
  • Roll Maximum Life instead of offensive stats on as many pieces as possible.
  • Kite enemies when they become Unstoppable.
  • Replace an offensive rune with Mot, Que or Xal.

Mechanics

  • Touch of Death swarms hatch after 9 seconds. This duration can be extended with Touch of Death Swarm Duration tempers.
  • Even though you have a cap of 3 swarms, these swarms can only replace each other after their entire duration has run its course or you kill the target, leading to a long delay before dealing any damage in most situations.
  • This waiting time is bypassed when Noxious Resonance, removes the Touch of Death from the target instantly and popping Insatiable without delay.
  • For high end content with fights lasting multiple minutes, this delay doesn't have a huge impact as it only slows you down at the start.
