Twisting Blades Rogue Endgame Build Guide for Diablo IV Season 12 - Slaughter

FAQ

Welcome to the Twisting Blades Rogue Endgame guide! This fan favorite clears all content in the game, with the added benefit of being extremely versatile with multiple build variants all utilizing Twisting Blades.

At its core, Twisting Blades is a two-step melee attack: You first impale a single enemy with your weapons, and then the blades rip out of the enemy and return to you after a short delay. These returning blades are the core of the build, and are what you need to plan around to succeed. Additionally, the returning blades rotate around you with Bladedancer's Aspect, transforming you into a demonic lawnmower.

We focus on dealing extreme DoT damage through Poison Imbuement, utilizing Imbuement Potency effects such as Corruption and Alchemical Admixture to turn you into a Poisoning Assassin.

The knowledge required to become the next Demonic Lawnmower of Sanctuary is within your grasp, so let us deep dive into how the archetypes work.

Note that information outside of Build Variants is described from the perspective of the Mythic variant.

Season 1 - Genesis
Twisting Blades Rogue

The Season 12 theme brings Killstreaks and Bloodied Items to Diablo 4. Slay enemies in succession to begin a streak that grants increasingly greater benefits based on which affixes you roll on your gear in addition to seasonal reputation and experience. Tiers are divided as follows: Killstreak (0-99) - Carnage (100-249) - Devastation (250-499) - Bloodbath (500-999) - Massacre (1000-9000) - Fresh Meat! (9001+). For most instanced content types, you can typically expect to reach up to the 4th tier (Bloodbath). Additionally, you can find Bloodied Sigils for Nightmare Dungeons, Infernal Hordes, and Lair Bosses that offer greater challenges and rewards (introducing "pseudo Torment 5").

Bloodied Items

Bloodied affixes are bonus affixes that can randomly roll on gear and come in three categories: Rampage (armor), Feast (weapons), Hunger (jewelry). The first two offer minor combat effects while the latter boosts specific loot drops, which doesn't impact your build. Recommended affixes for this build are:

  • Rampage: Critical Strike Chance, Attack Speed, Maximum Life
  • Feast: Gain Berserking
  • Hunger: Increased chance for Hunger Items

技能与玩法

Season 1 - Genesis
Twisting Blades Rogue
Gameplay Notes
  • Pick up points in Blade Shift to advance the Skill Tree.
  • Twisting Blades is your main skill, and you want to use it as often as possible. This gives you access to a ramping damage boost, which increases per hit and lasts 3 seconds. You want to stack a lot of attack speed to stack as many of these damage buffs as possible. Furthermore, Twisting Blades helps reset your cooldowns with Advanced Twisting Blades.
  • Dark Shroud makes us very tanky and increases our Movement Speed per stack. It also boosts our Critical Strike Chance, which is important for Blended Poison Imbuement. The Umbrous aspect allows you to take it off your skill bar.
  • Poison Imbuement is your main Imbuement. Activating it adds an extra Damage over Time effect to your next Twisting Blades casts. Therefore, you invest heavily in it and eventually deal almost all of your damage through its Poison applications.
    • You get extra Imbuement charges from tempering your armor. Moreover, both Preparation and Advanced Twisting Blades allow you to reset the cooldown of Poison Imbuement.
  • Poison Trap is used for a lot of reasons:
    • It provides extra damage boosts through Subverting Poison Trap.
    • Resets your imbuements through Countering Poison Trap.
    • Gives you knockdown through Enhanced Poison Trap for Malice
  • Caltrops is used against dangerous enemies to kill them faster and for Chill/Freeze application for Frigid Finesse.
  • Death Trap is used to activate No Witnesses and grouping the enemies around you.
  • We use Dash for more mobility.
Rotation Breakdown

Skill Rotation

  • Imbue your Twisting Blades with Poison Imbuement.
  • Drop Caltrops on elites and bosses for a significant damage boost.
  • Use Death Trap on cooldown to reset your Poison Imbuement and other cooldowns through Preparation, gain No Witnesses, and group enemies tightly within your Bladedancer's Area of Effect.
  • Use a Healing Potion for Unstable Elixirs.
  • Target the toughest enemy and attack it as often as possible to stack the increased damage taken from Twisting Blades.
  • Cast Poison Imbuement as soon as you are about to run out of charges.
    • Unfortunately, this means casting Poison Imbuement very frequently in the endgame. There is no way to avoid this without losing significant DPS.
    • Reset your charges by either:
      • Hitting multiple enemies with Advanced Twisting Blades
      • Casting Death Trap
  • Generate Dark Shroud stacks through Umbrous
  • We use Dash for more mobility. Use it to reposition your Returning Blades from Twisting Blades.
Situational
  • For more Damage:
    • We can use Smoke Grenade for more damage. This lets you stack Trick Attacks for more Crit Chance, and make you deal more damage through Enhanced Smoke Grenade against powerful enemies for more damage dealt. If you want to use this, you drop Dash.
  • For more Unstoppable:
    • We can use Concealment for a controllable Unstoppable. If you want to use this, you drop Dash.

Class Mechanic

Rogue Specialization

Preparation reduces your Ultimate Cooldown by 5 seconds for every 75 Energy that you spend. We relentlessly attack with Twisting Blades and spend a lot of Resources that way.

This allows you to reduce the Cooldown of your Ultimate Skill significantly for permanent uptime and gives us damage reduction.

Season 1 - Genesis
Twisting Blades Rogue

This section is designed to guide your Twisting Blades Rogue from a fresh level 60 into the very late endgame using the three variants: Starter, Ancestral, and Mythic. At the final step, you should be fully decked out with a great all-rounder build.

If you are fresh in Torment 1 coming from a leveling guide, this is where you begin. Since only some Aspects can be guaranteed from Dungeon unlocks for the Codex of Power, focus on acquiring the additional aspects via gambling with Murmuring Obols or Pale Marks in the Mercenary Den.

Gear & Skills

Gear Setup
Skill Tree
  • Early on in your progression, focus on stacking Maximum Life to survive. As you unlock higher power gear and Paragon points, you naturally scale your character into the higher difficulties and can start replacing some of these rolls with offensive stats or uniques.
  • Umbrous is an important survivability tool for many Rogue builds. As long as you have not found it, use Mot and/or Dark Shroud on your skill bar for extra defense.

Guide Notes

Once a guide is released, many players have questions on why and how we are approaching certain choices. In this section, you can find the answers to the questions that have been asked the most.

Frequently Asked Questions

The build works really well when you decimate everything in seconds, but you may get overwhelmed if fights are long against high level monsters. There are several adjustments you can make when you have trouble with more difficult content:

  • Use defensive consumables (Reddamine Buzz, Soothing Spices, Elixir of Fortitude II).
  • Roll Maximum Life instead of offensive stats on as many pieces as possible.
  • Kite enemies when they become Unstoppable.
  • Replace an offensive rune with Mot, Que or Xal.

Mechanics

For more Rogue Mechanics and Interactions, visit the Rogue Compendium by Avarilyn.

  • Dark Shroud stacks damage reduction additively for each active shadow. Due to the additive stacking, each increase in the skill's rank and active shadows boosts your survivability exponentially.
  • Shadows have a 1.5 seconds cooldown between losing stacks, but the damage reduction still applies depending on how many are active at all times.
  • At maximum stacks, your effective hit points (EHP) scale as follows in these examples:
    • Rank 1: 66.6% more EHP
    • Rank 5: 92.3% more EHP
    • Rank 10: 138.1% more EHP
    • Rank 15: 215% more EHP
    • Rank 20: 354.5% more EHP
